mentor

Hi,

I am fairly new to the shooting game. Just got my purchase card last year.

I have been shooting small stuff (.22 and .223) and reloading.

I live in the South Jersey area and was wondering if anyone near me would be interested in a shooting buddy or to be kind of a mentor to me.

I would be happy to shoot with you, but I am new to the game also. I was able to get both a Short Range Mentor and a Long Range one. What are you shooting (Yardage and type not caliber)?

Bob

As of now, I am shooting out to 200 m. from the bench. That is as far as I can get at the club I belong to.
Working up loads to try to go out further but would need someplace with more room to try. Was thinking about trying some of the 600yd competitions, but I don't think I am there yet.

Do you have a range you shoot at?
What type of shooting do you do?

This forum will be your best friend until you actually start competing.

It will take a while, but once you start showing up to shoots you'll find you will have several mentors after a few months.

Thanks for the replies guys.

And it is not just about finding a mentor, it is about meeting people in my area (and on the site) that share my hobby/passion.

I have learned a lot from reading and searching this site and figured I would be able to learn more with a hands on/ in person approach.

That's a good approach to gaining in any sport. When I taught basic archery I looked for when the student had an opinion on technique then I knew he was ready to move forward on his own.

I know it is a bit of a hike, but I invite you to come on over to the Bridgeville Rifle & Pistol Club in Bridgeville, Delaware - we have both Bench Rest and F-Class - we would love to have you come over and join us.... lots of shooters would love to help you. Don't worry about being competitive, just come to learn and have fun - being competitive will come in due course.

Check out our match schedule at bville-rifle-pistol.com - or send me a private email and I'll send you what you need.

Come see us....

De-F-open,
I was looking at that on your web site. That is one of the competitions I wanted to try.

Big John,
My Tikka is a 8 twist bull barrell. I have a friend that is a member at Cumberland and I have been trying to get out with him, but his schedule is tight and we have not been able to get together.
I have someone joining my lodge that has a private 500yd range and I hope to get the opportunity to use that as well some day.
One of the loads I have been working on is the 77gr. SMK in hopes of going longer at some point.

Balloonpilot,

Love to have you.....F-Class is always welcome at all of our Mid-Range, Fullbore and Long Range events.... We had 44 shooters at Sunday's 3x600, about 1/2 sling and 1/2 F-Class.
Midshipmen came over from Annapolis & shot sling (of course) - enjoyed having them there. Mild wind, lots of really nice scores. The best shoot of the year is the Cabela's Long Range Regional at the end of June - if you are a Long Range shooter, you really don't want to miss this one. I think that you will find that this is a relaxing, fun place to shoot - lots of good folks.....Good competition if that's what you're after and lots of folks who are just shooting for the fun of it - we have them all - and everyone is welcome.

Let me know if you need information or directions.

John

I think what you will find out in shooting is that we all mentor each other in this sport in one way or another regardless of how far we advance. The top guys are on here to help you as well as to learn from each other's observations and research. Stay hungry and you will learn more! That's how the top guys got to the top.
