Memorial Day -- Remember The Fallen

I always look forward to Memorial Day. On this day each year my wife and I wear our Dads' dog tags from WWII and Korea in memory. Dad was a POW. Both Dads are gone now. I wear mine too, though retired. As we grow older it seems we understand more each year the huge price paid. We love our active duty brothers and sisters.

Hopefully people remember what this Holiday is really about, not just camping and cooking out.

Exactly! I brought this up yesterday with several people. Seems like a lot of people forget why the holiday exists. Was driving back from the store earlier today and stopped at grave of one of my buddies who passed 2 years ago. He was a Vietnam Vet and it hit me pretty hard. Then saw all the flags in town and that hit me hard also. Seems like the older I get the more melancholy i get on this special day of remembering all the ones who gave the ultimate sacrifice!

Memorial Day, an American holiday observed on the last Monday of May, honors men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War.

I had 2 checkers at 2 different grocery stores wish me a "Happy" Memorial Day.

I asked both what is happy about dieing while serving your country. I am sure they meant well, but had no idea of what the holliday stood for.

today is Cemetery day just like last year and other years.
we see the flags and remember those who have given it all. all gave some, some gave all.
I pray they rest in peace . here and in other lands across the seas.
I also pray that one day we can find the missing comrades that have fallen and are lost to us.
