Melonite on a bat

Looking for opinions of guy with melonited Bat receivers. What does the finish look like as far as shiny dull? And how does it wear on the bolt surfaces. I'm trying to decide if I should try one out or go with the usual finish.

on mine (HR Long action) its dull;

can't do the bolt, as the bolt handle will not tolerate the tank temp (at least that is what I was told when I called and talked to them when I did mine 2+ years ago).

Mine is not really dull but it's not shiny either. I haven't shot mine yet so I can't say a whole lot about it. It is smooth, my bolt WAS done with Spiral flutes, and you can see where the edges are already turning shiny (losing the melonite) just from playing with it. It's yet to be seen whether or not I'd do it again I guess.

I don't think you are loosing your Melonite. You can take a Melonite surface and polish the black off and the hardness is still there. The black is the byproduct of the treatment. Your bolt can be done, the bolt handle will need to be reinstalled and timed.

It is a option right from Bat, and they do the entire bolt. As mentioned before you can see wear marks already from just cycling the bolt. It makes for a very smooth action though, I would do another one, receiver for sure! Here is a picture.

Jason it was worth the 14 months of anticipation....now just need to finish the gun to see if it works!

Mine's a melonited Bat VR on my #1 coyote gun in 6x47, and the bolt was done too.

As noted, the high points of the bolt fluting is getting polished, no biggie......

Looks good guys thanks for the input. Iam trying to put a rifle together for my dad Quick. I found a melanited one but didnt know if it was worth the extra $
