Medium sized yote boomer

I did a 22-250AI in the 1990’s. If the 22 Creed existed at the time it would have been my choice. Yeah the Ackley design has a sharper shoulder etc but factory brass and non-custom dies give the edge to the Creed. Any ballistic difference between the two is the point of a pointless debate.

22 CM is the easy button with cheaper dies and more brass options available... That's what I would do if I were building a rifle today.

I went with the 7.5 twist, 4-groove ratchet rifling barrel from Shilen thinking it might be easier on jackets.

If you are worried about twist rates and spinning bullets apart, take a look at the Barnes 77gr TTSX. Decent BC and you can run them as hard as you want.

Great accuracy in my 22-250AI at 3250 fps. I pushed them to 3400 with RE17. I traded the raw velocity for precision and temp stability by running H4831sc.

Bullet has performed really well on hogs, deer and coyotes so far.

I enjoyed my 22-25 Ackley but with brass availability I’d go with CM case. Seems like it’s almost always available and it comes in small and large primer. Also there’s no fire forming. The 22 Dasher would be my second choice, actually maybe my first.

Never had a 22 CM. But I have a 22 250AI. It was a 1@12. But Tikka offers a 1@8 twist. Looking at buying one. Have my buddy turn it into a ackley improve. Shoot that barrel out. And replace it. I have a bunch of new 22 250 brass put back. Plus some fire forum and die's too.

Very useful input. I also am putting together a 22 CM for the exact reasons you mention. Better brass availability, easy die/gauge availability, etc.

Interestingly enough I also opted to go for a Shilen 7.5 twist ratchet barrel. I hope this will help bullets hold together. I am planning to run the 80 ELDX and run them at mild (3200ish) velocities with H4350.

Just curious about brass availability.

How much do you shoot a 22-250? I have 100 round for each, 22-250 and 22-250AI I have had one for 20 yr and the other for 3 yrs and can't see killing enough coyotes to ever run out. More than likely I'd wear out multiple barrels before running out of brass. Load within reasonable and take care of your brass and it should last for a long time.

For colony varmints I grab a 20P, 223, 6x45 or 222, long barrel life and other than the 222 brass you can pick up off the ground if needed.
