Media seperator broke

The RCBS media separator I have had for 150 years broke the other day. Probably because I tried to put too many 45 cases in it. It has been great, and I need to replace it. Before I do, I was wondering if there is anything else out there that you like better?

I told you a million times not to exaggerate!
Seriously, I have had my Dillon for about
250 years and still strong and healthy.

Well you could get some brass hinges at a local hardware store then pop-rivet (3/16" aluminum shank'd be my choice) them onto your tumbler halves, maybe cut away the remaining good hinge first & gain another 200 years' use.

(Mine's only got 15 behind it so I don't worry much!)

Or buy a Dillon.

Boy! You guys and your fancy equipment. I use a square wooden frame with some rat wire nailed to the bottom. Cost me a buck at a garage sale. The Guy told me it was used in the Gold Rush.

Contact RCBS. I had a similar failure after "75 years" and they told me that they'd send me a new Basket.

Showed up as a complete unit. No Charge. I can't say anything bad about RCBS at all.

WOW.... I looked at the Dillon, and those look nice, but that big one is HUGE!!!! I don't think it will fit on my shelf where I store it. The little one looks like it would be fine. I will contact RCBS, and re think the age of the thing... it may be closer to 30 years old than 150.... I know my dad bought it when I was a kid, and it magically came up missing at his house one day after I starting reloading.... I told him that there was a rash of home break in's and only little things were turning up missing... He bought it the first time, but when the 7mm mag dies went missing just days after I bought a new rifle, I think he started thinking otherwise.

My dads socket wrench's came up missing, when I started twisting bolts on my motorcycle. Eventually my conscious got the best of me and I got him a whole new tool set one year for Christmas. Its never too late.

So yall would take a piece of plastic, which has served the man well for 143yrs, and have rcbs replace it just cause they will? Id use that warranty if it was still kinda new but something like that id just buy another one. That way they can keep offering lifetime warranties on defects

If it broke through normal use by all means replace it but it you were abusive to it in any way then think twice.

I recently took back a Garmin GPS I hadn't used to REI and felt morally inferior. But then again it was sold without any maps so what good was it?

+1

I'd just move to another state, a more media separator friendly state.

I keep about half of my tumbling equipment in a foot locker. To get it to fit requires K/D as in knock down or take apart. If the media separator came apart at the hinge I would replace the hinge with a piano type hinge or a repair kit that is used to repair drive belts.

Dillon, till then a wire mesh trash bin from office supply type retailer/ Wally world.
The wire is coated and fits in a 5 gal bucket or a smaller bucket you can get for free
from SafeWay's bakery dept. ;D

You can put a little metal hardware store hinge on it and use it another 150 years...although mine didn't last 2 minutes. You cannot "pop rivet" the new hinge on though...the entire plastic piece of junk will explode into a million shards if you try it. Better to drill and use small bolts and nuts. Do not tighten them overly too tight...or the same thing will happen the cheesy plastic junk will explode.
I have had great luck with RCBS, both products and extremely outstanding customer service...but that separator is junk with a capital J.

I actually ASKED RCBS if I could BUY a replacement basket and their reply was that they were sending me a new one NO CHARGE. I told them how old it was and made a point out of telling them I wasn't interested in Warranty Replacement.

Some times you have no choice and just have to accept the free part. Ditto with Dillon. Mention the fact that you wore out or broke a part and they just send you a new one NC. Only way apparently around that is to buy a new machine or accessory that they have listed on their website. Then they'll take your money.

Same thing on my power supply for my Chargemaster combo. It literally fell apart. I have no idea of why or how, but they refused payment and the part was not listed on their site. RCBS has the model for customer service that everyone on this planet should strive for.

I bought my Dillon back before the war of 1812. They hold up real well.
