Med student needs some help finding some credible gun/crime stats.

I wasn't sure where to post this, I am not trying to be political, I just need some good credible info firearm crime, stats, etc. I was tipped off today that we have a biased small group meeting that my medical school is subjecting us to. My girlfriend had her meeting today and said that the stats they brought in were incredibly biased so I figured I would come in with some good information as well to try to bring some balance to the conversation. I am already checking the CDC and NRA website for info. Thanks guys! And if this is considered political/borderline I will gladly delete this thread.

Here's a start for you http://www.examiner.com/article/exclusive-states-with-toughest-gun-laws-have-triple-the-amount-of-gun-deaths.

Do a Google search and you will find many more.

Look also to the latest report of the " FBI National Crime Statistics". This is the official report from law enforcement in the US to the FBI for tabulation and dissemination. It is however, only as reliable as the providers.

In addition to the above advice, be VERY, VERY suspicious of ANYTHING involving firearms coming from the CDC. In addition to being biased against firearms and firearms owners, they have even quoted "statistics" to prove their case, referencing reports from which they allegedly got these statistics, only when you follow the trail, you find out that the referenced report doesn't exist and that the writer of the CDC paper simply made the statistics up, along with the title of the referenced report!!

For a detailed discussion of the CDC's involvment in anti-firearms efforts, see "Guns and Public Health: An Epidemic of Violence or a Pandemic of Propaganda" in Volume 62, Spring 1995, Number 3 of the Tennessee Law Review. Nothing has changed at CDC in the last 18 years, except that a couple of their escapades have been so egregious that CDC's appropriation was cut by Congress to limit/eliminate what they had to spend on firearms issues - lying didn't pay for CDC but they sure did give it a good try....

Pick up a copy of Glenn Beck's book "Control, Exposing The Truth About Guns". Quick read and good reference for debunking many of the myths used by the left.

Checkout "The Armed Citizen" page in each month's issue of "The American Rifleman". Six or seven case histories taken from news articles, detailing the legal use of firearms by honest law-abiding citizens, includes the source of the information, location and date.
