Mechanically Challenged Member Needs Help With O/U Shotgun

I bought a CZ 12 O/U shotgun, and it assembled OK....but after taking it apart again, I can't get it back together.

Should it be cocked or uncocked for the assembly process.

I'm tired of watching Youtube characters effortessly snap the barrels to the action of their O/U.....

Any suggestions?

All help greatly appreciated.

George

Simple answer is that it shouldn’t matter. Try doing it both ways. I own maybe a half dozen O/Us. All with disassemble either way.

I've got the owners manual....just a couple of black and white photos showing how easy it is. I've looked at some other brands manuals as well, as well as a dozen youtube videos.

It's probably something very simple....just not simple enough for me.

Is your lever pushed all the way to the right? I would think it cocks when you open the action so you should put it together cocked.

The firing pins are released. Put barrel on hinge and close, put forend back on and open barrel. This should cock again and be ready to fire. Remember, put forend back on and make sure its locked. You will have a bad day if you don't, lol

Did you pull the trigger after removing barrel ?

I think you are going to have to cock the firing pins. Both fp are protruding and in the one pic I can see what looks like a small ding at the bottom of the bottom barrel where it seems the fp is hitting the barrel. You are going to have to figure out how to recover the fp without using the barrel and handgaurd

I'd try forcing the cocking rod back with a piece of dowel to reset the firing pins. It's going to be "stiff", so proceed with that in mind.

You have never said what part of the assembly you can't accomplish
Can you get the monoblock to fit into the receiver?
If you can, will the barrels rotate up into the locked position?
Can you get the forearm to lock onto the barrels correctly or not?

No....it will seem to fit in, and the barrel rotates up, appearing to close.....but it won't fire and I can't use the barrel selector on the safety.

It sounds like something is out of alignment. Send an email to CZ USA.

Did you purchase this new?

Was the forearm on? There is a little tang sticking out of the forearm metal that mates up to the cocking rod. Once the barrels are in place with the forearm on, open the gun up and it should cock the hammers and operate the ejectors.
Then your safety and triggers should work. If that don't work, I would try the above suggestion of using a wooden dowel on the cocking rod. The cocking rod is the Y shaped rod that goes from the front of the receiver back under the firing pins. Push the rod back until the rod stays in the back position, But DON'T FORCE IT. Then put all of the gun together and see if it functions.

Failing that, box it up and send it back to CZ

The CZ that I have will fire without barrel attached. In order to cock it...the barrel and the forend needs to be put back on. When you break the barrel to open it, this is when it cocks. If it doesn't, something else is wrong.
