Distance from the bolt face to the lands never change. Distance from bolt face to the point where the ogive of bullet touches the lands does change, I have found, is approx. .001 per 100 rounds. To clarify my first statement, when that distance changes the barrel is well past worn out.

What cartridge? What barrel? They are not all the same even with the same cartridge

I only use the Wheeler method for both Headspace and Ojive measurements . The headspace measurement never changes So I first size my cases using the Wheeler method only difference is when sizing the case it's on the bolt closure , with a slight to no resistance in closing is your zero . I use the no resistance case to find my Ogive measurement only for Ogive it's on the bolt lift without resistance . We can't stop wear but heat is something you can do something about . If you look in technical tips on this sight you will see a artical on barrel temperature using a temperature label from McMaster - Carr you can monitor your barrel temperature . Very Important .
