measuring device

just wanting to know, I HAVE NOT tried this just wondering.
i have a powder measurer that is used for black powder it has the measurments on the side that go from 5-125 i think
anyhow is it possible to use this device for reloading a cartridge. like i said i have not done this so before anybody gets mad or something like that i just wanted to know if this could work.

I think all powder measures use volume for measurement. So if you weigh your results and get an acceptable tolerance, then you are good to go. Or, you can weigh each load and adjust it.

hey thanks for the info. i am having some trouble with my scale so i have not been able to load anyhting and it
is getting really close to deer season so i thought
i would check this out. oh well i suppose that
i will mess with the scale saturday and see if
i can figure it out, anyhow thanks for the
comments very much appreciated.

Lee makes a set of dippers designed specifically for smokeless powder. They come with a chart that has the approximate weight of certain powders for a specific volume so you know how much powder you are dipping by weight as well as volume. I have been using them for some time now and they work very well. As long as you are cautious and follow the instructions carefully they are very safe and surprisingly accurate.

I would recommend them over messing with a blackpowder measure. They retail for under $15, so they are not expensive by any means. They are great to have for a back-up means of measuring powder or loading while you are away from home, such as hunting camp.

They are towards the bottom of the page in the link, called "Lee Powder Measure Kit", just a set of yellow dippers in a white and red box.

If you are having scale issues, it may be best to replace it. Lee makes an inexpensive scale that is very accurate. I paid less than $25 for mine, and actually sold my Lyman after I bought it because the Lee worked better.

DO NOT use the black powder numbers on your measuring device as if they would tell you the weight of smokness powder! If you are going to use it as an adjustable measure, you need to verify charge weight and variability with a scale. Don't even think of using those numbers without a scale.

i think the problems i am having with my scale is i get frustrated becuase it has been so hot and my reloading stuff
is in a metal shed so before i can get things like i want them i am drenched in sweat. nobody worry i have not and will not
use the blackpowder measurer without weighing the charge
for accuracy i like living and do not want to get injured or killed from my hobby. but thanks for the concern.
