MDT XRS - Savage 22-250

My new MDT XRS chassis showed up yesterday, and after getting the barreled action bolted in, I wanted to try loading a mag to see how it would feed. After reading a few good things here and there online, I ordered a 10 round .308 metal/poly mag from MDT along with the chassis. Rounds feed just fine from it, but my problem is, I can only get 5-6 rounds loaded in the mag. The base of the case starts to dip much further down into the case than the neck does.

Does anyone have experience with other AICS mags and 22-250? P-Mags? Accurate Mags? I'd really like to find something that will be able to take 10 22-250 rounds.

Just a guess here...

There's a lot of taper to a 22-250. The diagram shows almost .060"(.4728" to .4142") from case head to shoulder which is only a 1.515" length. Extend that taper to the tip of the bullet at 2.350 length and it's probably just shy of .100" Stack that up 10 times and the bottom round is tilted around an inch. You would need a magazine that looks like an AK magazine to properly work with that cartridge - banana mag. Don't think you'll find one to fit your bottom metal.

Most modern cartridges don't taper as much and would probably work better in a 10 round detachable magazine. A 22-250AI, 22 Creedmoor or 22 x 47L would likely work much better in existing magazines.

Again, just a guess.

Well, I've decided to ditch the new .22-250 barrel in favor of the 6.5 Creedmoor. Not being able to fill a 10-round mag ended up being a deal breaker for me, and the only con for me really is not being able to use the dedicated .22 cal. can. Now I'll be keeping my eyes open for a Gen 3 Fat B*stard brake ;)
