McRee Precision

Looking at a McRee stock for my 308, anyone have some pro's and cons about it? Also is there a difference between the tactical and hunter line. Their pictures look the same, I'm still looking for the exact specs.

Thanks.

Nice stocks, good machining, but a bit heavy (not a bad thing for accuracy). The tactical and hunter differ mostly in the accessory holes drilled in the tactical model. I would HIGHLY recommend getting the built in level on the stock, and ordering an Ergo replacement grip (unless you like the A2 grip).

Are you planning to get the McRee butt stock or go with an AR type? The folding stock adapter locks up tight and solidly for shooting, folds away nicely for more compact transport or storage - nice for longer barrels.

CeraKote or DIY? Personally, I am not impressed by CeraKote. I had planned on DIY with bed liner, but after reading reviews on CeraKote, went with it. It is cleaner and lighter than bedliner, but can and will scratch.

The only con for me is personal preference about not wanting to scratch up the underside of the stock resting it rocks, concrete, metal, etc.But I could certainly spray Flex Seal, bedliner or just tape it to prevent that.

As far as price, if you are looking for something with AI mags, this is a 1 piece unit (that holds the action and mag, stock is modular and 3 or 4 pieces). The stock comes with all the hex wrenches for the various screws used in assembly and is made in the USA.

If you have specific questions, call McRee Precision, they answer the phone and you will speak with a real straight shooter (pun intended). They are happy to answer your questions and are great people to talk with.

Hope this helps.

I had one. They are nice but as said they are heavy. As for coating. I did the whole waste of money and had it coated twice with two different products. Both didnt hold up for crap. Best coating I used was spray paint and a sniper skid.
