mcgowen barrels

anyone shooting a mcgowen barrel on there savage? im thinking about upgrading my 24" factory barrel with a 26" mcgowen on my model 10 300wsm. this is just a long range deer rifle, not a competition rig. I have a shilen on my 6br and was just curious how the mcgowens shot. I like there delivery times.....

I run a 24", SS McGowan on my 6x45 Savage SA build, varmint bbl. Damned accurate to 700 yards. My coyote load w/the 65g vmax always prints an average of .550" @ 100yds.
My best 700 yards w/a 95g bullet was 4.6".
Im going to have another 6x45 McGowan spun up, but in heavy sporter this time & threaded for my suppressor.

I think a heavy sporter is what I want for my 300 wsm. something heavier than factory, but not to heavy to carry.

You are going to hear negatives but the amount f people like me are satisfied weigh outweigh the nay sayers. If next year the fella or gal winning the super shoot was using a mcgowen, hawkhill,or any other brand, you would see a wave rolling in like in hawaii during surfing season with orders out the ying yang for that particular manufacturer to produce.Hart was popular, shilen in the 90's,kreiger,bartlein, and now brux is coming on strong. You get the picture.

thanks guys. I think I better go ahead and order one. ive bagged so many deer with my little model 10, she deserves a nice long stainless barrel. shes earned it! lol!

Built my 700 264 Win with a McGowen 28 inch tube.
Very fast barrel, extremely accurate and cleans easily.
I'd buy another one in a heartbeat.

You roll the dice on all of them. Better question is how's their Customer Service. JMHO

This is true. I have a cut rifled barrel from a well know manufacturer that I'm having trouble with right now. It still coppers badly after 200 rounds and I can't make it shoot. Sending it back to them this week. This picture is after the 200th round and running a few patches down the bore.

I have a 264 LBC, 20 Practical and 221Fireball so far for my Savage actions. Which I found to be easy tune and clean. There customer service to me is one of easiest to deal with, so I will be doing business with them again.
