Maybe the Weaver V-series 6-24x42 ???

Hi! I would need some input from you guys here on the shooters forum. I've been looking for an affordable scope for varmint shooting on a walking varminter, relatively compact and still reliable in the tracking and for the price, nice glass. Now I've been looking both at Leupold VX3 6-20x40 and Bushnell Elite 6500 4,5-30x50 scopes, but think they are a bit bulky with the 30mm tube. When compared to higher end scopes like NF and Zeiss, not to pricey, maybe I can find something at a slightly lower price - Now I've been looking at the Weaver V-series 6-24x42. Does anybody of you have any experience or thought about this model or any sister/cousin model that can help me in my quest? How about the optics? Can I rely on the tracking? Especially the tracking is a crucial question! But since the T-series have such a good reputation for their reliability at a reasonable cost in the benchrest/targetshooting-cirkus, maybe this goes for the V-series as well?

Thanks for the help! / TheSwede

I had one of the Weaver V series 6-24's and was disappointed with it. It was pretty decent up to 16X, then things got pretty grim. I'd looked through several V16's and was impressed, so thought the V24 would be just as good. Maybe it was just my individual scope, but I've heard similar comments from other users.

In that price range, I'd take a serious look at the Sightron SII series 6-24. Good optics, excellent tracking and great customer service should you need it.

Hope this helps. -Al

Thanks for the reply!

I've now been doing a little bit of googling and found some similar comments about the questionable optic quality on higher magnification on the above modell. I've heard great things about the Grand slam 6-20x40 though. Maybe a candidate?

I think the Sightron scopes sounds interesting. But over here in Sweden they have kind of bad reputation from early years with many broken scopes. But maybe that changed over the years? Is the ExacTrac similar to Weavers Micro Trac? What kind of optic quality could one compare the SII series with? Leupold VX-II?

The Weaver Grand Slam scopes I've looked through have all been very good, optically.

The early Sightrons did have some tube issues that were addressed pretty quickly. I've had great service from mine over the past 6 years. The Bushnell 3200 series 7-21 is another possibility, though optically it falls far behind the SII Sightron.

As you're from Sweden, it's probably best to pick a brand that offers good, local service should you need it.

Good shootin'. -Al

Actually 10 years ago I owned a sightron 6-24x42, which serie I dont remember. But it held the zero for as long as i kept it at least. But at 24X it was no optical wonder to look through ::)

In this price range I could accept that the optics aren't crystal clear. But I want the tracking to work without hassle, since I'm used to compensate with clicks, from competition and my NF-NXS scope, rather than holding over/under. Anybody with experience from the Bushnell 3200 7-21x40? Nice measures and weight on it!

Can I expect the scopes like the sightron SII, Weaver Grand Slam and Bushnell 3200 to track as well as I'm used to with my NF-NXS?
