Yeah after seeing this thread I watched a few videos from ARC explaining the design. Very interesting and well thought out ideas. I hope to have a play with one at some stage but they aren't very common over here

Couldn't have a naked action laying around. Repurposed a blown out 1:12 Remington take off barrel.

Polished it up and tested out my new 3/4-24 thread gauges. (muzzle end)

Now I'm going have to order a Nucleus from them.

I’ve got a nucleus on a John Hancock rifle from PVA. I need to sell it because I haven’t shot it in a long time and don’t really have a use but the action is so nice I just put it back in the safe every time.

it seems their steel of choice is 4340.

The only thing would question is their RC hardness of 53. I am wondering if that is a miss print. 43 RC would seem more in line with the ideal properties of 4340.

Its gotta be pretty tough if you cant engrave it after heat treat. Mine is not nitrided and its hard as a rock

It’s just for prone shooting steel mosty1500 yard to 2 miles

Lol!

You can easily gain or lose a mil or two.
Plus the actual elevation of bullet rajectories make the wind noticeably more than felt or observed most of the time.

Maybe.

4340, while being a deep hardening steel known for it’s superior impact strength properties, barely quenches at much over 55 RC. Tempering to 53 RC results in a relative large decrease in ductility.

This might be a moot point, as the design engineer might have deemed that even at 53 RC, ductility might still be sufficient in this application.

Here is a typical heat treat chart for 4340 that shows how much ductility decrease as hardness rises.
