I do believe in Captain Crunch.
Hi Gang,
I have a sporterized K98 made by Voere from the 1970's. It's throwing fliers too often for my liking no matter what powder or bullet combination I try. This is just a hunting rifle. If I can get this thing to shoot 1 to .75 MOA @100 yards that's all I'm looking to accomplish. I just need to get rid of this flyer that shows up in my 4 shot groups. More often than not, the flyer shows up on the first shot. Crown looks ok.
So I'm going to bed it and see how it does. The stock is not a sporterized K98, it's a typical Voere sporter stock from the era that they were using K98 actions. It still has the cross bolt recoil lug. Looks similar to this one:

I have a full plan to bed the action. Normal process, balance barrel, bed the screw sleeves, relieve the appropriate areas and tape the others.... but I don't know what to do with the cross bolt recoil lug. Do I bed that first? Leave as is? Does it need tape in any way? Do I bed over/around it or do I need to leave it accessible?
I have no plans to change the stock on this rifle. So I have no problems bedding over or around the cross bolt lug to make it permanently glued in, if that's the way to go.
