Newbie to this forum, AND Re-loading. One question keeps nagging me, as to what primers,are used on what calibers. So far, checking the internet, and reloading manuals, I do have; I have been unable to find a reference chart. My plans are to reload, 44mag, 38Sp.,9mm, 30-30 Lever Action, & 35 Whelen. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks; OldSarge
Matching Primer to Caliber?

My experience, and I think most here would agree with me, is that you match primer to powder and not cartridge. Generally speaking, in my experience, large charges of slow powder perform more consistently with hot primers, while faster powders do fine with normal primers. Even so, there is an element of voodoo, and there are many exceptions to the rule.
Also, a good reloading manual can guide you in this area. A foavorite manual for initial load development is the Speer manual, which makes primer recommendations.

A good LP mag primer for the 44 mag, the 38 special and the 9mm can use a plain old SP primer....
The 30/30 and the Whelen will do fine with regular primer, 200 CCi comes to mind for them...
As mentioned you match the primer to the powder being used...
If you plan on shooting in very cold weather the magnum primers are a plus usually..
