20 years or so ago I had a gunsmith replace the trigger in my M77V 22-250. I thought he installed a Timney but not totally sure. The trigger was wide and very comfortable and broke like glass. It also had a plunger that popped out from the bottom middle of the trigger when the trigger was pushed forward. I had the trigger set on 2.5 lbs and the plunger set at less than ½ lb. This was by far the best combo I have used. I now own a Rem 700 and I would like to buy the same trigger for it. Any of you know if this trigger or one like it still offered? Thanks

I believe the trigger you describe was a Timney (I assume your M77V is a Ruger) but Timney didn't make that style (as far as i know) for rifles other than Ruger. Not to worry, they still make a darn good model for you Rem. 700.

Yes sir it was a Ruger M-77V. So Timney only made that style trigger for thr Ruger? Is there another option simmular? Would it be considered a set trigger? Thanks

You know this could have been a "Canjar" trigger. It sounds like you had a single set trigger as you say pushed it forward. This is the step that sets the trigger, Canjar made and excellent single set trigger but I do not believe they are in business any longer.

From what I just read on the web Canjar closed 10/31/2007.
You might try ebay and see if they have the one you want.

I had one of the Canjar set triggers on a M77V in 7mm Rem Express (280 Rem) back in the early '80s - it was an excellent trigger. It had a wide shoe, which you pushed forward to set it, whereupon a narrow segment popped forward out of the center of the shoe.

I kept it and re-installed the OEM trigger when I traded that rifle off, and had no problem selling the Canjar later to a friend with another M77.

I've used several Jewell HVR triggers on my own & customers' rifles, and they're still my personal favorite. However, Timney's std trigger for the M700 is a huge improvement over the OEM unit, and their new Calvin Elite is supposed to be a good deal better yet.

This is the best Single Set Trigger on the market...

Have you tried the CG model 21 trigger for the Rem 700? Once you're tried one you'll never want to shoot with anything else. They are that good. Also very pricey though. Do ever try one unless you have the spare cash.

They discontinued that version some time ago (partially because it had 'clearance' issues), and now market their CG Mod 22: http://www.x-tremeshooting.com/index.php?page=cgxtrememod22
