MATCH RIFLE SIGHTS

I AM LOOKING FOR RECOMMENDATION AND RESEARCH INFO ON MATCH RIFLE REAR SIGHTS.I KNOW THE HIGH AND LOW PRICES BUT IS A $500 WARNER THAT MUCH BETTER THAN A $300 DOLLAR PNW?

Check out the Phoenix Precision sight. Awesome sight, great value. Was just part of the Daily Bulletin not too long ago. Sold by Creedmoor Sports and also direct from manufacturer.

In my mind, the Warner is worth the price. Buy once, cry once. If you sell it, you can sell it quickly for about what you paid for it. It tracks perfectly, every time. Its a work of art. I have had other sights over the years but they have all be sold off or are sitting out in a box in my garage.

Realhunt,

I have studied in full details most of the sights actually on the market. In my modest opinion and as far as there has not been improvemnts recently out of my knowledge, there is nothing to justify a differential of 200 dolars....

A VERY GOOD and durable sight can be produced for selling at 300 dollars, a SUPERIOR at some 350..Above that, it is adpatation to favor...

Robert is right, and that sight is the Phoenix. I have two of them, one is a side mount on my prone rifle, the other on my XTC AR-15 based space gun. Why wait 6+ months and spend $200.00+ more when there are other options.
This advise is worth what you paid for it,
Lloyd

I wouldnt necessarily disagree with that. Same thing with 30mm sights, they are priced way higher than they need to be, but the good thing is that you only have to buy once.

Same with bbls. You can get good bbls for a lot less than what the premium bbl makers are charging.

One simply must decide where they want to spend their $. I choose to buy what I think is the best and what I KNOW works, perfectly, every time. And, I know if I have to part with one of my rear sights, I wont have a problem getting my money back...though, honestly, that probably aint gonna happen any time soon.

Like Lloyd said, this advice is worth what ya paid for it. :-)

Warner no question. I've seen quite a few sights tested in a fixture with a .0001 dial indicator starting at the bottom of the elevation, middle & top for repeatability, change direction and how do they react to a 4lb load,such as getting bumped with your hat) Windage the same full left, middle and full right movement, change of direction and the 4lb load. No comparison. But its your $200.00:)

A 4 lbs hat???

Is that a criteria for sight quality? If so, I will have to add it on my evaluation list!!....Mainly if it contributes to the 200 dollars shift...

Robert, 4LB load............ 'such as getting bumped by the brim of your hat' While shooting its not unheard of the sight might get hit faces/hats etc. The test were set up and ran by Larry Moore a very accomplished shooter along with being a Professional Engineer. Just what is your test procedure and evaluation list?

I think you have a good idea from previous posts about quality. I've owned Warner, Phoenix, Centra, and RPA. On my Palma rifle where things have to be right every time I use my Warner. Some other things to consider will be a different mounting system requirement for the RPA sight and different thread pitch on windage and elevation for the RPA and Centra sights which make the 'clicks' a different value from most of the US made sights. Keep the adjustable apperature as simple as possible in the rear sight and use the snap over color filters if you think you need them.

I'll throw in my two cents worth. I have two PNW match rear sights and have nothing but good to say about them. They track and repeat without question. You can get them from Ron Herms.

Tony Miller

I know to Robert is as well, but doesnt change my advice on sights. Now, if someone wants to send me a Phoenix or a PNW to evaluate, MAYBE I will, but until then, I will stick with my Warners and not risk another wasted chunk of money on something that does or doesnt work. Not saying they dont, but I KNOW the Warners work and I prefer not to save a few bucks if it means I may lose a point or an X. I at least know where I stand with the Warners and spend accordingly. Sorry, but the dang sights are just too expensive to take a chance that saving $200 is going to be a good investment. I have an RPA...but I wont buy another. I have used the Phoenix, at least once,maybe that wasnt enough) and didnt like it.

So, for now, I still stand by what I said about the Warners....Robert or Ron's comments, notwithstanding...though, I certainly agree that they should recommend what they want or beleive works, just like the rest of us do. Oh, and I dont mind spending less on the same item, I do that with bbls, and other things, but not until I have had a chance to test and verify that they work the same.....which isnt always an easy thing to do!

My criterias of evaluation concerns a product quality, not futie cosiderations.

Sorry, this was initially sent by error.

Every rearsight I know of is cpapble to rsist to the 'shock' against the flexible brim of a shooters hat... Even many of them could resist against a Fritz helmet....

I would eventually express this in lbs/foot,or maybe in inches/ounces, more relevant), not in plain pounds...

So, Please tell me who you can call or email to ask questions about the sight we built for you? The guy who honed the holes to + or - 50 millionths, lapped the screws to a running fit of max .0002 of the P.D.?? The same company who will not buy pins centerlesss ground over + or - 20 millionths? You think this comes cheap? Think again.

Want to know how many sets of parts the anodizers F---ed up in the past 20 years? Try about $300,000 worth of sales. Trash can items.

I learned the only rule when I was a tadpole apprentice. If it isn't right, it does not go out the door. I've never crossed that line. My work, and my customers are too valuable to risk any of it.

Ask Gary Costello. Current World F Class Champion.

The prior generation of this company made torpedos fly straight for the US naval efforts in the South Pacific in the WWII efforts. The third is fully capable of all we do now. The fourth sits in front of the CNC,at 5 years old) and asks questions. The fourth prior to me invented the cotton gin.

Who you want to call?

It's interesting to read Robert Chombart's comment on this thread seemingly suggesting that somehow a rear sight costing more than $300 - $350 is somehow out of line. I have some of the $300 sights that Robert Chombart had a hand in designing, and while they work, I would not liken their quality and design to a Warner.

Why a Warner sight:

1. Premium quality in all respects;
2. Absolutely superior design and choice of materials;
3. Name recognition as the benchmark for top quality and function;
4. Resale value if you stop needing it,i.e. you can always get your money back out of it).

When it comes to optics you generally get what you pay for,whether it's a scope or 'iron sights'). It's funny because some people will drop $1200 - $2500 for a commercially produced rifle scope without blinking an eye, but if you asked them to part with $500 for a rear 'iron' sight they might act as if you were trying to rip them off.

All I can say is if you don't know and cannot appreciate the quality of what you are buying with a Warner sight, then the sight is not for you, it's for those who appreciate the best!
