kinda tight going in, i usually use cci primers

combination of soft primers and tight pockets? anyone ever have this happen?

I've had alot of rounds primed on this cps, first time this has happened in almost 4 years. this is the 3rd case now that did it.

CCI LPP in 10 mm Starline brass did the same for me. Save them for when the primer pockets loosen to get a few more firings out of the brass.

Too tight of pockets or your primers didn't line up correctly and caught the side of the pocket. I havent had that happen in a long time... however I check primer pockets and have a high end primer. Not sure which helps more.

If get em out... they may go off when decapping... be careful. Then try a different primer.. they need a firing on em to open up.

Unbelievable how much they are damaged. Surprised they didn't go off. Hard to believe the cases are that tight. You need massive force to crush them that bad. Since 2009 I have primed Lapua cases with CCI, Rem and Federal primers without a problem. Does a different primer seating tool see this problem.

Just looking at your Pix the push pin on your priming tool is way off center based on the position of the round flat indent. Like Sniper said can you determine if the priming tool lines them up well with the pocket before you push? Can you do something like putting a piece of paper in the priming tool and make a small depression to see if you can see an impression of the pocket o.d. and if the push pin indent is centered.

The fact that it doesn't happen all the time sounds like what Sniper said. The edge of the primer cup catches on the pocket edge and tilts the primer??? Things to check I think you will solve it. Is the push pin on your priming tool bent? From your post I get the impression it doesn't always happen?

Something to try. As the primer just touches the case twist the case to help alignment???

they decapped very easily surprisingly, like i didn't even feel it

i'm surprised they didn't go off either.

nothing wrong the priming tool, i just guess the primer pockets were too tight and wouldn't allow for the usual self aligning of the case?

not sure what to say, i never had anything like this happen before on this tool. luckily only 4 out of 101 did it.

just may need to me more meticulous in making sure the case is all the way back in the shellholder on tight cases in the future

anyways, just thought I would share something weird as I never saw it posted before

Definitely odd. I used Lapua 22-250 with no problems using CCI 200

these were f210's, its what was given to me. I am loading these for a friend thats too busy to do it himself atm.

Probably be good if the primers could be swapped for a harder cup. Federal primers are notorious for being softer than others. The main reason I try to avoid using them both small or large.

that was what i was thinking too.

although I have a nice stash of f205's and f210's, I've been using CCI exclusively the past 4 years.

only outlier here is the federal primers
