Marlin XT 22, are they really any good?

The marlin always seems to come up in these " five rimfires you gotta have.." type reviews on you tube etc. etc. Is there any merit to it?

For target shooting, no merit. For inexpensive short range plinking or pest control, its better than a sling shot.

Not for target shooting.
I don't shoot varmints, but from the spreads I have seen in groups at 50 yards, you have a fair chance of hitting something between a squirrel and a gopher at 50. If you want something a bit less accurate but a lot more fun to shoot, consider a Henry .22.

I wasn't actually considering one, I was just curious. I see no XT fans have weighed in on this thread so I'd guess the claims of greatness are unfounded.

Own a Marlin XT22. Made a decent stock for it for shooting from benchrest. Put a 6-18X scope on it. My darn old open sight Model 12 BSA martini out shoots it at 50 yds. But, I still kinda like the Marlin.

I have a marlin xt22vr. The heavy barrel version. I have never been able to get it to shoot much better than 3/4" at 50 yds. This is using norma tac 22, match 22, and eley target. I also have extraction issues from time to time. I bought it for a long range 22 competition just for fun. This was shooting steel plates and it may be accurate enough for that, but it is par timed and having extraction issues that killed time (ultimately dropping the mag, clearing, and reinserting).

I ultimately bought a sako quad range and I have 50 yd groups that are routinely less than 0.3 inches. I shoot it in 100 yd and 200 yd competitions - fclass (or similar rules).

I just bought a Marlin XT-22 from Academy a day after Christmas as my Christmas gift. Shot it off deck at about 35 steps. CCI sv ammo. Shot a bullet aimed at first bullet on next 4. 20170104_123521.jpg
