Marlin XT-17V

I just picked up a Marlin XT-17v for my son --his birthday is next month-- plan to use the factory Weaver base and Burris Z rings--As for a scope I am looking at the Truglo 4-16 X 44 Infinity-- It has side focus and target turrets --if you want to use them--they are $85 at NSS-- seem about right for the rifle price point..--
Has anyone shot one of these enough to get a fix on the best ammo??

Other sugestions on scope--in the less then $150 range would be good too

Last the stock is birch-- any cool refinish ideas-- to trick it out??

cci 17 and 20 grain shot the best out of mine, v-max 17 grains were 1.5 at 50 yds. If you could post your results that would be great I was going to get rid of mine, but there may be hope for it yet.

Shot mine again tonight 1/2" three shot group at a 100 with cci 20 grain FMJ. 17 grain tnt hollow point was an 1 1/2" at 100.

Mine is the Marlin 917V. It definitely likes the v-max bullets better than the hollow points and Federals shoot about the best. It's hard to determine the absolute best brand because they all are very accurate. I topped mine with a Mueller 4.5-14x40AO, awesome scope for the price. I finished mine by dyeing the wood with a 50/50 mix of black liquid RIT dye and denatured alcohol. I applied three coats of dye then finished it with Minwax Antique oil.

got the 917 with syn. stock.put an old bushnell 6-18-40ao scope[already had]on it.shoots cloverleafs at 100y with cci 20 gr fmj
