March scopes

Hey everbody, I was just reading the want ads for scopes and saw where a fellow who calls himself dar1246 wants to sell a couple of Marches, seems he needs a lower power rig. I just happen to have a right new 5x22 NXS with postive stop that would be just what he needs and I need more power like the March. Iwas just about to try and trade with him and along comes wang243, he says March's warrenty is not transferable. Who in their right mind would spend 2200$ on a scope with no place to go if you got trouble. I have two Pandas, plus one of George's stocks, one of his triggers, and have had work done by Kelbley on several bolts, all first class experiences, love his stuff. Can this be right?JF

Took Rust advice and called them myself. They have to be sent back to Japan at second owners expense, and all repairs at second owners expense. Looks to me like this just about makes them..........?JF

Comparing March scopes to Leupolds is comparing apples and oranges. Leupold is one of the largest optics companies, sells an enormous number of scopes annually and its product range is very extensive although it has actually reduced its presence in the accuracy niche market.

The March scopes were developed to serve exactly that accuracy niche market, initially the short range bench rest crowd that had clamored for a better fixed power recticule system for many years, and then to the long range bench resters and target shooters with a high power variable. March has a limited number of scope models produced in very limited numbers (well under 1% of Leupolds annual production) on a specialty production line and simply can't afford the same warranty service.

Like most leading bleeding edge products, they have to command a premium price because of limited production numbers, and the buyer should always consider carefully if his or her need for such a product outweighs the potential shortcomings.

Having played with a couple of March variables I have to say they are very impressive, however my 1K rifles are still topped by the 12-42 BR Nightforces and they are still more than adaquate for the task. Plus I can buy two for the price of one March or Heritage ;D

Rust Described it well. However, there is another point that needs to be addressed. If one has to depend on warranty service and has to cycle scopes to and from the manufacturer to keep them working, there is something wrong with the basic product. I have 2 March scopes on benchrest rifles that used to sport other brands--I am not turning back--the March scopes beat the others in reliability of POI hands down.

For what it is worth, Nightforce's warranty only covers originol purchaser..........jackie
Not according to my owners manual. It states that it is a transferable limited lifetime warranty and that the warranty begins on the date the product was purchased by the original owner. Dan

Couple years ago, I called NF and told them the NF 12-42 I purchased used was not tracking well.
The nice lady at the other end said "Send it in and we will take care of it." I did so and about 10 days later, it was returned in the big brown truck postage paid and no charges. Even Leupold cannot match that service.

I apologize for my mistake, I had a warranty card from my NXS from 8 years ago, and it states that the warranty was good for originol purchase. Nightforce has obviously changed that since then...........jackie

I have a good friend who just got the Tacitcal 12 x 60 with a 1/8 dot to use on his new F-CLass rifle. I will try it side by side with a Nightforce BR 12 x 42 and let you know how it looks!

I buy the best quality I can afford, so when scoping three or four rifles Nightforce BRs tend to be the scope. Maybe some day I'll take a deeper breath when ponying up for a scope and get a March variable... but until then none of my failures to win have been due to issues with a scope, only my inability to shoot straight ;D

jackieschmidt, I read your ad on BR.com a few weeks ago that you were selling all your March scopes. What are you replacing them with on your bench guns? Just curious. Thanks

I SOLD 2 SCOPES TO BUY MY MARCH 35X55, MARCH WILL NEVER COME OFF MY F-CLASS RIFLES, PERIOD, THE BEST GLASS, PERIOD.

I'm very interested in one March scope but the non transferable warranty acts against the quality that it must have, it’s a premium priced scope and Kelbys and the Deon should stand behind is products if they don’t something must be wrong.

Who in their right mind would buy a $30K+ car or a $300K+ house without a lifetime warranty? ... :-/

It's all in your comfort factor and the brain washing that an industry has accustomed the masses to- for my part, I bought a March because I wanted something that hands down (IMO) had the best optical quality possible. No, I am not rich. I sold a few older scopes and other stuff to raise the bills required. I have a March tactical 10-60x52 and I would not trade it for anything at this point. The clarity is beyond outstanding and the consistency of windage and elevation adjustments is also fantastic.

For my part, the line from the movie Tommy Boy applies: "I can take s%@! in a box and slap a guarantee on it and all you've got is a guaranteed piece of s@$^@"

(this is not an observation on any other scope maker per se, just a general observation about my feelings about "needing" lifetime guarantees).
