March scope question

I mounted my march 10-60 on my old 40x and sighted it in today and shot a few test loads with it. My observation on the scope is it seems dark compared to the NF 12-42 I've been accustomed to using. What are you guys that owned and or used the march scopes observations on this?

I own more than one March 10-60 models and love them! At 60x (max power) they may seem a little darker. I usually don't go over 55x and the clarity/light is fantastic.

+1 - Shiraz's experience is the same as mine, although I don't own "several" 10-60's... :-) Currently I only have two, a 5-50 and a 2.5-25. I've owned a range of March scopes though, including a 10-60 for a few years, and they have all been exceptional. I think the new NF Competition might be every bit as clear as the March's, my eye can't tell the difference. But the older NXS 12-42's (if that's what you have) are a step below IMO. I haven't looked through the NF BR series.

The NF I'm use to using have been the 12-42 BR series. This new ATACR though to my eyes are head over hills more brighter than the 10-60 but I need to test them both at or around the 25x mark since it wouldn't be fair to say both at max settings.

Having owned a Nightforce 12-42x56mm BR then sold it to move onto a March-X 8-80x56mm there is no comparison. Then a March 10-60x52mm not as good and my latest is a March-X 5-50x56mm which is in my view better and much lighter than the Nightforce. Have not tested any of the new series Nightforce but for the new increase in cost they had want to be good... Weight is one big factor more so than that fine optical quality when trying to gain the advantage in class qualification. Eye relief is another in favour of March and lacking with Nightforce.

The Nightforce NXS I have not used but believe it's optics are not as good as the BR Series that uses less lens's. Price is a big factor and if I wanted a "cheap" target scope, it would be a Nightforce BR.

So, I have three March Scopes and will not part with any of them.

I have never owned a March, but have looked through a few. You're certainly correct about there being no comparison. The March scopes are many rungs higher on the ladder in every respect ;)

I can dial mine back to 40x and it seems to brighten up but once I go past that it gets dark and at 60x its really dark.

I've been shooting a March 10x60 for a couple years. Got a 2014 NF Comp and I like it far better than the March. If it holds up the rest of the year, the March is outta here.

Yep, and that's going to be true of any truly high magnification scope. That's partly why I found 60X to only be usable in certain conditions. It's clear enough - just dark(ish). 50X is about the highest magnification I can use without noticing the sight picture getting dark.

A bigger objective helps, which is why you see the big magnification spotting scopes with such huge objectives.
