March Riflescopes ???

Which model would be best for hunting but with exposed turrets?

Looking at Swarovski Z6 and Leupold HD-6

needs to be lightweight, going on a Barrett Fieldcraft which is now topped with a Z3, 3-10X40. This is a perfect optic BUT I like lots of magnification.

I confess to not being much of a hunter; I'm a paper killer. That said, could you specify what you mean by "lots of magnification?"

My March-X 5-50X56 has a lot of magnification and starts at a fairly low magnification. March is the only manufacturer with a 10X zoom that would supply you with all the magnification you could ever desire and they are very light. If you need FFP, I believe the March has 8X zoom and in SFP, they have a 10X zoom.

So: Maximum magnification? SFP or FFP? Once we have that, we can zoom in and focus on a specific model. (Pardon the fully intended double pun in the prior sentence.)

I use an illuminated march 5-50x56 with mtr2 reticle on my 284 Winchester.
This gun is really only used for hunting and the march is perfect for what I need it for and the mtr2 reticle is the best reticle I have seen for my needs .

I think 20-25X will serve all my hunting needs. I'm an old MOA guy and like to make the old drop chart and dial my long elevation. thinking the 2.5-25x42 with the tactical knobs might be my choice. nice and light to match my tiny rifle with broad mag. range.

Buzzsaw,
I have the March in both the 5X25X42 and the 5X25X52. Both are really nice scopes. For comparison, I also have a few Swarovski Z5 and one Z6 in both 3.5X18X44 and 5X25X52. The March scopes are shorter, more compact and I like that. So I bought the March in 42 MM first. I noticed that in the late afternoon, the "picture" was getting a little dark, especially when turned up to 20 power or so. For my next scope I ordered the 52 mm and it is much better in low light at higher power. Both track perfectly as expected. Mine are the non-tactical variety with the exposed turrets. The Swarovskis have a slight advantage in clarity, in my opinion, and mine track perfectly. The Z6 in 3X18X50 is 15 inches long and the Z6 in 5X30X50 is about 15.55 inches long. The Z5 is about an inch shorter and I can't tell the difference in the clarity. Of course, the Z6 has a 30 MM tube and the Z5 has a 1 inch tube. Both are great scopes. My March scopes are on relative short hunting rifles and the 52 mm tube doesn't look to large on that rifle.
That's about as objective as I can be. If I can answer any specific questions for about these scopes, I will be happy to help.

Bullets.com is the place to get one. They take 15% off retail, but if your ex military or ex law enforcement or current military or current law enforcement, or a licensed gunsmith or maybe your good friends with any of the people that I mentioned, they can purchase a scope for you for an additional 5% off.

I have a Swarovski X5i 5-25x56....BRM reticle. I use it for 600yd comp and it is an outstanding optic. I also have 2 March 10-60x52 for other rifles used at 600+ and they are solid also. Turrets on both are exacting on the detents and perform flawlessly on a box test. The 56mm objective Swarovski is noticeably brighter, as expected, than the 52mm March's. I would suggest looking at the Swaro X5 also before pulling the trigger..so to speak;).

I just got a Swarovski X5I 5x25x56 for my hunting gun. I sold a scope to buy it. It is very clear and bright. The downside is the eyebox is short. Not sure about dependability, but the clicks are right on the money. I compared a Schmidt and Bender and a Hensoldt against it and it was brighter and lighter. I will try it on a light gun this summer. Matt

What kind of hunting and distances? Are you dead set on variable power?

Look at the S&B Klassic line of scopes.

I've had mine for 2 years and about 2800 6.5 Creedmoor and 300 6 Creed rounds using it and it has performed well at 600yds on in. It appears to still track as new but I have not put it on a scope checker yet.... I don't know if it would have a fine enough reticle for BR, I've never shot BR, but good enough for a MR-1FC at 600yds.

I have the 4w reticle and it is as fine as my NXS. I believe it will work for 1000 yard BR. Matt

I have two March scopes, 3-24x42 FFP Mil, on my 7saums I use for most of my game hunting. Love them! Compact, tough, much lighter than most comparable scopes, repeatable, clear....... I have used most of the scopes out there and really see the March 2.5-25 & 3-24 as some of the best hunting scopes available. If your an MOA guy and want to dial down to 2.5 in timber or up tp 25x for range you can. You can’t go wrong.

There's a used March 2-25×42 in the classifieds. I have a 3-24×42 illum. tact. MOA on a 280ai and love it. It's not the brightest in low-light conditions but suits my needs perfectly. They later came out with 3-24×52 which is suppose to be great in low-light, but I like the size of mine much better on my lean rifle. Barry.

I’ve owned the 3-24x42 and two 5-40x56 FFP. I though both had outstanding glass. I also am a big fan of the turrets on March scopes. Very positive clicks and just about the right size. I believe I am gonna purchase another 5-40x56.
