March-FX 1.5-15X42 FFP has been announced

Turbulent Turtle

F-TR competitor
March has just announced an FFP version and a Dual Reticle version of their 1.5-15X42 SFP riflescope.

The March 1.5-15X42 was released a few years back introducing new objective lens group technology in the March riflescopes. This is a scope that has a 42mm objective lens and a 10X zoom ratio starting at 1.5X, all in a compact design. Of course, as soon as it was introduced, people started asking for an FFP version. The SFP version is a 30mm tube design which is great for hunting, and for the AR Tactical class in NRA comps (maximum 15X on the optics).

Now DEON is releasing two new versions of that great optic; same length, same objective lens group but with a 34mm tube.

One version has an FFP reticle:

The other version has a dual reticle (FFP and SFP), with a daylight bright center dot in the SFP position. This is the same design as in their 1-10X24 Shorty LPVO. It appears that DEON is now expanding the use of dual reticles in more than just an LPVO.

I had never heard of a dual reticle before. Does it have a ffp and a sfp reticle in the same scope that you can switch between?

The way it works is as follows. The reticle in the SPF is a simple crosshair with an illuminated dot in the middle. The do is daylight visible when turned on. When off, it's just a black dot. At 1.5X the FFP reticle is all but invisible, so you only really see the crosshairs of the SFP.

As you zoom up, the FFP reticle grows and becomes visible. This FFP reticle is a tree type reticle and it appears to grow out of the SFP crosshair along with the magnification. the SFP crosshairs remains constant size, but the tree grows. Since the FFP is constant, relative to the target, you can make a 1MOA or 1 MIL adjustment using the tree at any visible magnification. When you're at 10X or more, the tree is very visible, yet the crosshairs remain the same size, along with the illuminated dot. It makes for the best of both worlds. You have a quick crosshair with daylight visible dot at all magnifications, and you have the scale of the FFP as the magnification grows.

It's magical.

Here is a link to a review of the 1-10X24 Shorty with the dual reticle. You can see it in action near the end of the video.

And a good discussion on the concept here:

OK your explanation makes it easier to understand how it works. Sounds like a great idea. The reticle is never too small to see at low magnification and not to thick on the upper end but all the hash marks are in ffp. Sounds like the perfect hunting scope.

The form factor is compact, the thing is about 10 inches long. It will weigh about 24 ounces, and it has a huge objective lens to let in all that light. I have had the SFP version and for a while now and it's a great little scope.
