Manatee IBS Results and Future Ideas

I am having a F TR 308 rifle being built. I have not shot past 200 yds yet, but plan to get some practice in at Okeechobee Shooting range starting in late April. Once I can hit a Target at 500 I will be up to see you guys. I am down in Palm Beach county.
I am going to load some 80grs in my F TR 223 and get a little practice in while I am waiting for the 308.

Hi Linko,

You are always welcome to come and shoot, but the matches we are discussing here are shot from the bench, not prone like f-class. There are f-class matches that are shot at 300 yards here at Manatee, but that season is now winding down. Hate to say it, but the best place for 600 yard f-class is at Port Malabar. Our long range matches are held at 600 yards from benches. You may have some fun with your .223 or .308 FTR rifle, but it is a stretch to compete against rifles designed to be shot from a bench.

Hope to see you out sometime.

Steve

Thought that Okeechobee range went to just 200 yards. Did see where a PRS shoot was scheduled there. That schedule said they shot to something like 1,200 yards. Have to contact them sometime and really see what their max range is. Since Manatee lost our 1,000 yard range, some of us are looking for an option.

Periodically ( twice a month) they have a 500 yd shoot across ranges. Very crude arrangements. Like shooting in combat. No slabs or benches. A tarp and dirt.

Thanks for the info.

Can I shoot prone to 600 non match?

Not sure. The 600 range open to the public (with certification) is primarily for bench. The raised platform in front of the benches can not be used while shooters are at the bench. I have seen shooters at the far left and right of the benches shoot prone off the grass, but far from ideal. The main line out to 300 yards used to allow prone between the benches on the concrete not ideal and only 300 yards.

Call the office and they may have a better explanation.

Yes and no.

Look down at the base of the 16 bench line. The concrete is set about a foot lower than the grass portion in front of the benches. That raised section extends out about 20 ft. to accommodate F Class shooters. Now on Thursdays and Fridays you could shoot from that raised grass area IF NO ONE ELSE is using the benches. An RSO should let you do that but you cannot lie between the benches and see the 600 yard target line. It would not be safe to have some lying in front of the benches while others are using the benches behind you.

There's probably a time when the shooters are done or few and an RSO there can allow you or others to shoot in the F Class position. Just cannot predict when that time might be during the practice days.

Ok, thanks.

We (F-Class shooters) have on occasion shot prone from the top of the benches when others were back there. We had to pull a table to the bench to extend the surface to lay on. Far from ideal.

We have one more match the first Sunday in May. Our official season ended this past Sunday, but the May match will still occur as a "fun" match.

For 300y, your 80g 223 should do just fine. I started F-Class there last season with a 223 shooting 80g SMKs and attained HM. This season I used a 223 made specifically for the 90s. The FT-R group is very competitive at Manatee, more so than the F-Open. Most days there are more 223s than 308s.

Send me a message if you want any specifics.

Nick
