Manatee Gun Range

I caught up with a couple of shooting buddies yesterday that belong to this site. teele1 drove up and met linedrive301 and myself at Manatee. It is over a 200 mile ride 1 way for all of us. We shot paper at 100 yards, banged steel at 600 yards, then we tore the 1000 yard 8" gong up. What a day, it was one of the best shooting days I've had in a while, not to forget the fellowship, truly blessed beyond expectations. For th i se that are within driving distance or want to take a few days of shooting in visit the Manatee Gun Range. Oh almost forgot we had a chance to visit with savagedasher, had not seen him in a couple of years. Larry ( savagedasher) is in his seventies and still very active in their club. There is a bunch of realgood people at that range that go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Gene Pitts, the (Gunny) was not there, he is up at Camp Perry, working as usual, like he has everyear

Funny that you mention Manatee today.
I've exchanged e-mails today with Larry Costa, who is another member there. I would like to see the Winds Of Manatee revived next spring. That would be a 100-200 yard BR match.

That short range where they held The Winds of Manatee has been lengthened, it is now 600 yards deep. It has a nice grassy hump in front of the covered area for prone shooting. Larry told me that is where they shoot the dirty bird match. I was there one time while the Winds of Manatee shoot was under way, I never seen the wind do so much in an area, all those wind flags were going crazy.

I was probably there. We went to a big box store after setting flags on Friday Eve. We bought tent pegs and twine to hold the flags up Saturday morning. There were flags everywhere. I loved it. I want to go back.

Hey Snowman,
When we going back???? I can't wait. haven had that much fun in......well I just don't know when.
Was worth the drive to shoot with you and Mark.
6CMs slamming steel at 1000. What could be better

Uthink u know We are having our Dirty Bird shoot and the bench rest shooters are more the Welcome to join. They have lost the Winds of Manatee Shoot. Tell all of them to come up and join our shoot . With the help of all of us we can bring the Winds of Manatee Shoot back. Thanks All Larry
Thanks all

Larry, Jim, we will have to get back down there and shoot on a Saturday, hopefully the 1000 yard gong shoot. The 6mm Competition Match barrels are still shooting pretty good. I just went over the 4000 round mark with the 27", it was banging that 8" gong at 1000 regular. That .284 that Jim has, lordy, lordy it is bad to the bone, he was rocking that gong..... I do plan on getting down that way more often.

Quick update: range upgrades required closing the 1000-yd range until a safe path forward can be worked out with county, etc. However, 100, 200, 300 and 600 operational. Bulldozers were brought in, reworked our berms. New management, everything cleaned up and ready to roll. Come and see us. Bill
