Making a right hand stock left

Hello ..I have a left hand savage model 12 in 17 REM. Fireball.
Im looking for a stock I like for some reason I keep coming back to this one.
B&C doesn't make a lefty and I seen some pics of a gentleman who converted it to a left-hand stock with devcon as filler, some file work, and a new paint job..
I need some guidance and I'm curious to if this project would be pretty much straight forward or is it a PITA...And not worth the time..

  • Bell & Carlson Tactical Medalist Style 5 Fully Adjustable

Pretty straightforward
I would add some pins (toothpicks) to hold the devcon in place. Paint the whole stock instead of trying to match. Camo style can hid mis-matched surfaces.
Good luck

Teele was the member that did one of the posts . It's not hard on a savage stock , rough up the stock material use pins or tooth pics to hold the material as was also suggested by Kingx

This is what we use to create pockets for a mechanical bond. It fits any standard Dremel Rotary tool and takes a light touch to make several small pockets. Be sure to sand to rough up the surface and degrease all the surfaces which will require bedding material. The 'pins' discussed are placed in the bolt handle notch and the ejector port area because of the size and depth of material to fill those spaces. Like rebar...

These are inletting guide screws which screw into the action to help locate it in the stock to establish where the new bolt notch goes and the ejection port.

Regards.

Those kind a mods are very straightforward. Go for it. Brownells Acra Gel is great for that kind of modification. Nice and thick, holds its shape and won't run. Don't over think it, use your bottom metal and action screws to locate the bolt relief. And like Kurz said, rough it up real well and no paint left where the bonds will be.

Here is a stock I was working on using Devcon to create finger grooves and fill voids. I am a lefty but I can shoot with either hand. This is a McMillan or HS Precision stock that came factory on an XP-100R. I could shoot it right handed, but when hunting, I like to use either hand. I used a grinder and cut down the thumb rest area on the left side and started filling in the voids and adding the finger grooves. This was the stock before I went to final surface prep and paint. I cannot find the photos of finished product...I will have to look at home. It is now a nice leafy camo and shows no signs of stock work in the finish. Came out nice if I say so myself.
