Magtech primers

Is there any reason not to use Magtech primers for go to the range to shoot ammo? I know they aren't BR-4 or whatever is THE primer to use but I'm not after bench accolades, just a fun outing.

I was told a long time ago that they were basically a Remington primer that was made on Remington tooling and the Remington mixture but manufactured in South America. Brazil, as I recall. I have not seen that info verified anywhere. I have shot them and they worked well.
THIS INFORMATION IS WORTH EXACTLY WHAT YOU PAID FOR IT.

For non-match loads, use whatever goes bang that you can get and afford. Nothing wrong with Magtech, White River, Fiocchi, Unis Ginex, etc. That said, shop around. You CAN find CCI, Federal, Remington, etc. for 6 cents per, and sometimes better. Stock up a bit (if you can) when the prices are good, and you’ll be set if/when prices go clown-world again. Even benchrest primers can infrequently be found on-line around the same price. Good luck to you.

I would add it depends on what type of matches. For 'cross the course' and PRS, [1 1/2 to 2 MOA targets] White River, Unis Ginex, S&B are all fine. I'd bet that Magtech is also. I simply don't have any experience with Fiocchi.

Kmart is correct; CBC ammo/Magtech primers are made in Brazil.
Good news is they are coming to Oklahoma…

I have used most domestic and imported primers when available. I have just under 1K left of the 7,500 Fiocchi SP primers I bought for my 9x19 and .380 ACP loading; love them.
Fiocchi is likewise building in the USA…

Fiocchi has two main ammunition production plants in the USA:
one in Ozark, Missouri, and another in Little Rock, Arkansas. The Ozark facility is a long-standing plant that serves as a center for shotshell and centerfire ammunition, while the newer facility in Little Rock focuses on expanding handgun ammunition capacity and manufacturing primers.

Ozark, Missouri
  • Established in 1983, this is Fiocchi'soriginal manufacturing plant in the U.S..
  • It is the production hub for shotshell products and a significant portion of Fiocchi-branded centerfire and rimfire ammunition.

Little Rock, Arkansas
  • Fiocchi has a new facility here that includes a dedicated primer manufacturing plant.
  • This facility significantly increases the company's capacity for handgun ammunition and has made Fiocchi the only plant in the world dedicated to lead-free primer production.
  • This expansion also allows Fiocchi to handle its growing U.S. market and is one of the most significant primer manufacturing operations in the country.

Not a fan of their small pistol primers. I bought a case and put them in NOS Winchester 9mm brass. They seated with absolutely NO feel whatsoever. I fired a few and they backed out and flattened like over pressure ( mild Sierra load with 231).

When I read Laurie's Article ( Book ) on Primers , I was minorly surprised to find Mag-Tech SRP's listed fairly high on his list . He tested them to be consistent and a quality primer over-all . Maybe some of their other primers don't live up to those standards , and they have improved their process for the SRP Line at this point .

If you are near KY, I’ll buy them from you for my own Rem 03A3 and Garands.
The 03A3 is from Oct 1943, and other than a “C” stock added when she went through Arsenal inspection after the War, she has one of the tightest head-spaced bbls I’ve measured.
The 2-groove barrel is just under a 1 for Muzzle wear,
