Magpro in 270 and 7 rem mag

I was getting short on imr 7828 which I use in 7 rem mag and 270win for some loads, so I picked up some magpro when it was available as a substitute. Now I found 7828, and I have six lbs of magpro as well. The 7828 works decent in both my 270s with 150 grain bullets amd in my 7 mag. I am debating selling or trading the magpro tor something Rather than work up a new load. Does anyone have experience with magpro in 270 or 7rm? Is there much to be gained? It should work just fine but I am not sure if I want to spend time and components to find out. I am leaning towards posting it for trade for a few other powders i use

I have tried it in my 338 Lapua when I was short on Retumbo ,velocity’s were low pressure spiked up rather quickly I have nearly 8 pounds left for emergencies

I've just started using it in my .300win. I've found it's giving me similar velocity to my H1000 load but uses less powder and groups are tighter. As 338 dude said, pressure spikes pretty quickly when approaching max loads. Seems to be fairly temperature stable though.

Can't help on the .270 but I use Magpro in 300WM which is close enough to 7mmRM to make a post worthwhile.
I typically load 210 and 230 grain bullets for long range in my 300WM where IMR7828ssc and Magpro have become my two go-to (pet load) powders. I HBN coat bullets, and load longer than SAAMI OAL so take that into account when looking at my loads. 74.0 of IMR7828ssc runs about 2,930 FPS with 78.0 of Magpro giving around 2,850 FPS. Shot same day at 68F. I've been using both these loads for a while and they are very accurate. FWIW, I tested CCI LR magnum, #34 and std. LR primers in both these loads and the results were bass ackwards from what I would have believed. Lowest ES with 7828ssc was with the mag primer, Magpro, standard LR and no velocity differentials to note.
One huge advantage to Magpro is, if you are feeling lazy or in a hurry, it meters very well and consistently.
Hope there's something there you can translate for your 7mmRM.

I appreciate the metering aspect more and more lately haha. Those stick powders work well but I get tired of trickling up every single charge. Maybe I should keep it.

I’ve got some .270 Win loaded up with Magpro and 140 Gr Berger VLD’s for a ladder test. Until my kitchen remodel is done and the new appliances installed, I can’t get to my reloading stuff to go and test it. Hopefully next weekend I can get out and test it. I’ll let you know what my velocities at my node are.

I would be interested to see what you find. Have you ever used the berger 140s on game? I have been going to try 140s in a 270 for a few years just never got around to loading any. The bc for the bergers are impressive

I have not used Bergers on big game. I know several guys that cuss them here in AK. I’d probably only use them on caribou and deer here.

Well, I went out and did a ladder test. It was 16F and calm winds. I tested from 56 gr to 61.3 gr. Fastest speed was at 61 gr @ 2918 fps. I hit a velocity node between 59.8 and 60.4 gr. I’m going to load a 5 shot group test at 60.1 and another at 60.4 gr. I was getting 2845 fps in that area.
