Magnum primer selection help

Getting ready to do some load development for 300 winmag.

I have a large supply of H1000 and 4831SC so I am hoping one of those will make the magic happen.

My question is about primers.

I have around 5,000 Federal 215 primers, would the 215M's be beneficial to accuracy?

Is there another magnum primer you guys would recommend?

When developing a load for my 7mm RUM I had been using Federal 215s. I talked to the guy that made the barrel who is a past world record holder. He recommended trying Winchester magnum primers, I did and they seemed a little better. Use the Federals and see how well they shoot and try some others latter. Every gun is a mystery unto it self.

No offense taken. I am honestly trying to learn.
Check with friends and others they normally will give you a few to try . Many of times when testing I have found a primer that works and just change the lot number and they don't . Good luck Larry

The 215Ms are terrible. I'll give you what you paid for them. ;)

Ideally I'd shoot only 215Ms, however I have not seen physically or online any for sale in a number of years. I'm running low. I have enough to save for my 338 Edge and 300WM long range guns and burn out both barrels.

I've also used them in my 243AI with great success, but I found and bought 3K regular 215s and will be attempting to transition that gun over. Given what I have read I will be surprised if I can tell the difference.

Going forward I will be at least trying CCI250s in the magnums for new loads, Federal apparently has no interest in meeting demand but CCIs are easily available.

I have access to a few thousand. I'll most likely pick them up so I can test.

What shoots good in one rifle may be horrible in another.. Its trying different things till you get what YOUR rifle likes.. Powder charge and bullet selection are very important.. You may have a friend that has the exact rifle as you that has a load that shoots great but put it in your rifle and it might be all over the place.. It can be a frustrating thing.. A crono really helps but the holes in the paper tell the story..

As you can see some guys like the federal some like cci and some like winchester... Theres no rhyme or reason to what a rifle likes...

I have a mid range 300winmag load with 178amax and H-4831... I tested 210m & 215m primers and the velocity was not much different.
215m averaged 3 fps more than the 210m.
If you're not gonna shoot your load in the winter you will be good with 210m.

I live in Texas. We don't get much of a winter. :D

Is the best primer mostly related to a specific caliber/case or is it more of a marriage of the primer and powder type?

Magnum primers did not exist until Roy Weatherby asked Federal to make a stronger/hotter primer for his 378 Weatherby sometime in the late 50's. I think.

The 300winmag has 40+gr less capacity than the 378 Weatherby. 210m works good with H-4831 in the 300winmag.

Along with the 210m and 215m test I tried CCI-250 and got a bit more velocity but accuracy went from sub 1/2 moa with the 210/215 to 1 moa with the 250.

My best loads in 2 different 300 wm's are with the remington 9 1/2m primer. Just my experience. Lowest es in both rifles shooting 230's over retumbo and 210's over rl25.
215 m's never seemed to work for me.
