Magnum Prefits?

I'm new to the magnum cartridge game.

Coming from a PRS background, I must admit that I am spoiled with my Impact actions and the ability to buy pre fit barrels.

I am wanting to build a 338 rig and I see that there are several top action manufacturers offering Lapua bolt face actions. My question is, are there any actions running prefits in this market? Or is the magnum cartridge chambering\ throating too bullet specific to offer a "cookie cutter" chambering?

Depending on what your going to run. My 338Imp is a single shot. Most of the ELR guns running 300 grainers will be. Haven't looked for a pre fit.

I have two 300winmag prefits from Shilen and they both came with very little freebore. A uni-throater would be a good investment in my opinion. You don't need a Lathe to extend the freebore with a uni-throater from PT&G.

I've done several magnum prefit barrels with great results, I know moat will accept dummy rounds to customize theoating.
I actually really like what McGowan is doing, I've had 3 prefits from them and they're all .5 or better

I run almost exclusively McGowan prefits now. I recall sending dummies for throating to Shilen (barrel turned out well), I don't think I have with McGowan so not sure if they do. But the results have been top notch. My 338 Edge McGowan on a Stiller Predator action shoots groups right with my F-Class 284 with a Bartlein installed professionally on a Panda action.

Yes McGowan takes dummy rounds for throating.
With the crazy prices a lot of smiths are charging these days to chamber and thread, not to mention ss blanks are going for about $400, a guy is gonna spend $1000 on a Flippin barrel..
I'll take my prefits anyday
