Magnum bolt face options besides 338 Win Mag?

I have a kid that likes boomers. I bought a Tikka 695 in 338 Win Mag. He loves it, but now he thinks it kicks a little more than he likes. Right now, it's just a factory gun. I've mentioned that getting a heavier custom barrel with a brake, along with a heavier custom stock would tame the recoil issue but maybe he should stick with a 308. He seems infatuated with the "338" big bore aspect. I'm almost ready to start making the stock and ordering a barrel. Before I do, I thought I'd ask if there are other cartridges that are "better" than the belted 338 mag but still have the 338 "mystique"? I don't really want to jump up to the the Lapua Mag. Thoughts? Thanks, Josh

338 Ultra Mag will also work, and do it better than the WM..
A 16 YO girl shoots mine without a problem, but it is braked and has recoil reducers in the stock..

Why not make reduced recoil ammunition? You can use cast bullets and Trailboss powder to make it a sweetheart to shoot at nominal ranges. As he gets used to it you can then gradually work up to hotter loads.

Why don't you just put a muzzle brake on what you already have?
