magnification at 100 yards?

So how do you figure out what your target at 100 yards will look at with a 20 power scope ?

Look at your target through a hollow tube (a pvc tube will work) about the same diameter as your scope tube.
At 20 power your target should be about 20 times that size.

I think thats plenty for shooting out to 200 yards. Never figured out the math or thought about enough i guess . Whats the proper way to figure it for other ranges?
