Magnetospeed, I'm a chrony killer

On Tuesday AM, I joined the league of chronograph killers when I blew the tip off my Magnetospeed V1 beam sensor. The bullet left a lovely skid mark along the top of the beam and neatly scooped out the tip magnet. Tuesday night, at 10:30 pm, I ordered a replacement. I picked up the replacement beam at my post office box, in western Washington state, this afternoon, Friday, about 2:30 pm. No special handling, just USPS.

HATS OFF to Magnetospeed for the best service I have EVER seen from ANY kind of company and to the USPS.

I did the same except one of the magnets flew off and passed thru the open passenger window of my H2 and passes thru the closed window on driver side. I assume it was the magnet as I don't think the bullet would make a sharp left tun. Great day $120.00 for sensor and $180.00 for Hummer window!

How do you manage to shoot this chrono? I'm not trying to be a turd, would just like to know so I don't do it.

Oh it is not that hard if you let your attention slip just a wee bit while shooting a string.
I managed to do it with a heavy barrel 260 --the strapping slipped just enough for me not to notice BUT quite enough for the bayonet to tilt up just enough to catch the bullet.

The original poster is however correct in that Magnetospeed is johnny on the spot quick on shipping out the replacement.

The only good news is that I did not shoot out my car window (ouch) and I WILL NO LONGER ASSUME everything is tight and out of the path of the bullet.

I didn't kill my Oehler, but I certainly wounded it once, so far.

There is something inherently contradictory about putting an object of value in front of a gun and expecting not to shoot it sooner or later. That's why I hope they don't price these Doppler chrono out of my price bracket. http://mylabradar.com/

This is a sport that requires attention to detail or sooner or later you will get bit in the butt or the window of your H2 Hummer. I know I have had my share of screw-ups. I saw a guy have his scope fall off his rifle while he was shooting .and the first thing he said was "how the hell did that happen".

I agree, I've seen more than 1 rifle blown off of benches on to the concrete from he middle-class from 50's with gillbrakes. Unexpected things do happen

+1 on their customer service. I had the holding strap clip (?) break on my Magnetospeed V1. Called them and a couple days later had a replacement. On another note, I destroyed my first chrono, a Chrony, with my crossbow, duh. :P ::)

Don't feel bad, I shot a screen on my old 33 about a week after I bought it.

A few years ago a guy asked us if we would mind we waited until he set up his NIB Chrony. To make a long story short with the first shot out of his 12ga slug gun the Chrony lost it's mind, he pretty much blew the guts clean out of it. The best we could tell he was just a tad low in the LCDs!

Someone quipped " Hey buddy, you should shoot two more for group"!

Last year while I was in the Austin, TX area I went by the MagnetoSpeed facility. I was given a tour and they answered the numerous questions I had about my MagnetoSpeed. They are a great bunch of guys and very helpful in any way they can be.

I thought long & hard about buying a Magnetospeed, but talked myself out of it and bought a Caldwell instead just for these reasons. As much as Murphy rides shotgun with me, I figure I'd put one down DRT sooner or later. Trying to keep it semi-painless :o.

I hit my V1 Bayo once. Same thing, knocked the from magnet out. Replaced quickly by MagetoSpeed.
I hit my Chrony uprights once. Made new ones from 'Piano wire' from the hobby shop.

Anything on the other side of the muzzle is in danger....
