Magneto Sporter...accuracy

This is my prc with 156 bergers and N565. Its only a 3 shot group but its a thin barrel and heats up fast. Round count is 120 rounds down the barrel. I have tried lighter loads but sd went way high and group size was bad. Just a hunting rifle. I like to find a load that looks good on paper before i hook up the magneto speed. It does change my group sizes.

It blows my mind that people can't comprehend that hanging something off the end of your barrel is going to effect group size and point of impact. You need to shoot your rifles as you intend to shoot them hunting or in competition. This is the same issue I have with people sighting in their hunting rifles in a lead sled. Are you planning on packing the led sled around and strapping the rifle in before you take a shot? Same goes for the Magneto. The magneto is an information tool only. Use it when you have found a good load that shoots great and holds at distance. Strap it on, fire ten rounds, group size or point of impact be damnned and get the information you need and go back to shooting the rifle the way you intend to shoot it. People read way too much into chronograph numbers. Let the rifle and the targets tell the story and who cares if the SD is a little more than you would like or the velocity is slower than you want to see. If it shoots it shoots and a slow hit is better than a fast miss every time.

I agree, the chrono is an information tool and doesn't help much in term of what one sees on paper. But, it does tell you something about your cartridge loads. I want to know how consistent my brass prep and reloading is and chrono data tells me that. If I'm consistently getting 5 shot ES's in the 60's and SD's in the 30's, I'm not doing something well enough in my reloading procedures. I guess some people would be satisfied with that. Once I was getting that kind of results and was not satisfied knowing I could do a lot better. Upon listening to some very experienced and knowledgeable people to figure out how to get improve my chrono numbers, it didn't take long to work those number down. Now I consistently get 3 and 5 shot single digit SD's and my ES in the teens. And yes, I know a larger set of shots statistically tells me more and I've done that too. But when I look at my data over time and I'm seeing consistent single digit SD's, I'm satisfied with the reloading procedures.

Load development for accuracy and precision is a whole different animal. But, if you're reloading poorly, it can certainly effect accuracy and precision. ;)

I'm going through my whole process. Re checking all my calibrations, die's, etc.

FYI, I was only shooting to look for a powder node, not accuracy. I didn't use a target, or have a scope on my rifle. Simply testing in 5g increments. As to my original question, I'm leaning towards I did something crazy wrong :)

Or, get an off barrel mount, like an MK Machinging mount, and you can use it whenever you want and it won't impact the POI.

I have it setup with a 1/2" gap to the bore and adjust the sensitivity accordingly. I use it a lot more often as a result. For a stationary gun, there's no downside to always collect data.

just messin with ya but how do you reckon the labradar was the benchmark?
Honestly, the Magneto speed is mine and the Labradar a buddy's. Just thought we would compare the two given the difference in technology and price. On a side note, the Magneto Speed runs neck and neck with my old Alpha Chrony.

You can get goofy readings with the magneto speed if it slips, and it does that a lot.

Next time you put it on, tighten it as best as possible. Then put a piece of duct tape over the strap on the barrel. That will keep it from moving.

What do you mean by a 'powder node'?
I think the advice would be to find an accuracy node as observed on the target first, then check for ES and SD.
Yup,.. THIS,.. ^^^
I try to find, an Accurate / SAFE Load at, near Max Powder Charge @ 100 yds, check groups @ 200 or 300 yds, FIRST !
THEN,. I Chrono the Load ( Usually find, GREAT SD's ) then Verify, the Load at, 300, 500 and 700 Yards against my "Drop Tables' as,.. I "Dial" distances for, Hunting or shooting, Steel.
Hanging a Turd, on the End of my Barrel,.. AIN'T,.. "Happening" !
Does Look good and "Professional",.. on the Intenet, tho

I am always racking my brain trying to come up with a gadget or a hack to contribute to the reloading world, but so far someone has always beaten me to it! A functional magnetospeed attachment system is in the calling! To come up with such an ingenious invention and then to pair it with that mount......

Well magneto beat you to it! They make one.
It’s a little pricey.

Yup, makes sense. Add to that a fluted barrel and I'm asking for trouble. I'll be using my old Caldwell next time out. I will be getting the Lab next sale.

Wiser Precision. Quality product. For those (like me) who can't leave the M/S at home,
