Magic bullets.

For those of you who have shot in competition, do you have a memory of a lot of bullets that were just pure magic. I do. Many years ago, Bart sent me some of his first 65gr. BT bullets to test. These bullets shot so well in my rifle and a couple more of my friends, it was unreal. I told Bart that these were Superman Bullets (name stolen from Mike Ratigan). Bart used that moniker for these bullets for quite some time.

A second lot that comes to mind is one from the late Lowell Hottenstein. These were 68 gr, BT built on his Simonson dies. These were so good that a mediocre shooter like myself was able to win the 200 yard Sporter yardage at the Nationals at KC, Kansas.

A third lot was from Bart and it involved his long range bullet. It was called the Infinity and it was a 105 gr. VLD bullet. It performed superbly at 600 yards in my Dasher.

Berger has produced some great bullets also. I had a lot of 108 BT that would hold its own with most custom bullets.

I will mention one more. I won 250 Hillbilly bullets at the UBR Nationals years ago. Larry Moore made these 68 gr. FB bullets with Detsch dies These were some of the best short range bullets that I have shot.

I could go on, but let me hear from you about what you have found. Thanks, James Mock
Do u remember the ogive of these bullets by chance ??? Thanks for any info.

Back in the mid 2000’s, Lester Bruno made one of the first “DOUBLE O” boat tails in 66 grain.
he sent me some to test, and my gosh, they were magic.
I ordered 5000 and just about ruled things for three years. If I did not shoot at least one “teen agg” at a Two Gun Match, I would be looking to change barrels.
anybody that shot with me back then would tell you how good those bullets were.
But, when that 5000 ran out, I ordered 5000 more, and to make a long story short, let’s just say I ceased to rule things.
I have had different lots of various bullets through the years that were pretty darned good. But those Bruno’s were indeed “magic”.

Many years ago, a fellow named Brian Rubright made some 8 caliber fb .22 benchrest bullets. These were magical in my 13” twist triple deuce. I shot groups in the teens and zeroes with those bullets with H322

3 boxes come to mind for me.
The second box (500) from Kirk Etheridge 66gr 8.5.

A pack of 250 fowlers.

My last box of 65gr Watson on the .790 jacket.

Three come to mind, first is a Cheek 30 cal. 115, 7 ogive. This has shot well in every 30BR I've owned. Next would be 6mm 80 grain FB Berger varmint bullet. Lastly, a 36 grain .224 Starke Red Prarie varmint. These shot very well in a 14 twist 223 with 0 freebore and VV N130 powder. And if anyone has some of those Starke's sitting on a shelf collecting dust let me know!
