magazine length AR 15 reamer

Has anyone had success with a AR 15 chambered with a short throat? I want to use my AR 15 as a semi auto feeding from the magazine and not having to jump .080 or more the the rifling. I am not a high power shooter and do not own any bullets over 77gr. I found a thread by Viperdoc a few years ago trying to do the same thing I am, but I did not see a thread on his results. His last thread was trying to get a Wylde reamer with 0 free bore. Any Ideas out there?

Get a copy of compass lakes reamer or get a barrel with their chamber in it. I love mine and itll shoot most any sub 77gr at mag length

Thanks for the replies guys. The reamer specks I have on compass lake chambers give a OAL of 2.450 with a 80gr SMK which is still way over magazine length. On the standard 223 reamers I am looking at a Remington match reamer made by Pacific tool. On the old Viperdoc posts he tried this reamer but I could not get any results on it by reading his posts. JGS lists their .223 reamer #514 with a loaded length of 2.435 with the 80gr SMK which is still to long.

Not to sound negative, but an 80gr shouldn't be loaded to magazine length, hence the longer OAL listed by specs...

A wylde chamber cut for OAL of 2.450" still shoots a 69gr Sierra at 2.260" just fine.

I'll add extra information. I'm using a wylde chamber for long range. Mag length 77 does great for under 600y, then switch to 80 or 75Amax for 600+.

My alternate 600y rifle us a 24" 1:9 with berger 70gr VLDs from the magazine. With a standard 223 chamber for minimal jump.

Just chambered an AR in 20tac with a short throat. Shoots 38's real well. Tiny little Lilja, lite and accurate. Also done some 204 AR's with .020fb.

Check on kriegers site. I think they offer a 223 match chamber on there AR barrels. Around .010fb?

OK so I am going to be THAT guy and ask why you would want to run a 80gr at Magazine Length.? The reason I ask is because by the time you shove that long nosed 80gr (input any brand) into a 223 case it becomes obvious that you have taken up an overly high amount of case capacity. When that happens and you have a heavy bullet it will not produce enough velocity to over come almost ANY of the slightly lighter projectiles in the 75 to77grain weight class. If you have laid one of the 80's next to a case you will see what I mean. The 80gr SMK and similar bullet if seated that deep will have the shank of the bullet just behind the case mouth " think of those Funnel looking things they put on dogs to keep them from scratching there head.
Trust me the Highpower (CMP NRA) community has worked this angle every which way from sunday. There is a reason they run the 80's Longer than Mag length and the 75-77 class bullets at 2.250.

Not trying to be negative but your reinvention of the wheel has already been tried.
Hope this helps.

I may not have been clear in the first post but I do not want to shoot 80gr bullets at all. I am just trying to get a magazine length 77gr to within .010 of the lands in a AR15 . Looks like I will have to have a reamer custom ground to accomplish this. I was hoping that someone else had tried this and could give me some reamer specks that they had tried. But thanks again for all of your posts.

gstaylorg that is exactly the information I was hoping to find. I have a reamer printout from Dave at Pacific tool of the Remington Match reamer but my print shows a freebore of .068 Now that I know more about the 0 freebore I will call Dave and order a reamer with 0 freebore that will run in a AR15. Also XTR the reamer comparison is a great help also. Many many thanks guys.
