Magazine help needed please

So a friend acquired a .338 Lapua built on a Remington action from the wife of a deceased husband. the rifle has a aftermarket DBM type bottom metal. It is for sure a m-5 length inlet. It did not come with a magazine box, as it could not be located anywhere. I have a AICS magazine that is stamped .338 CIP on it. The magazine box will fit into the b.m., but the tab in the magazine is not extruded far enough to catch on the mag release lever. There is no adjustment on the b.m. anywhere. I think I remember reading about this problem some time ago, but can't seem to find any info. There are no manufacturers markings on the bottom metal. Any help is appreciated.

Tony.

The CIP magazine is 3.850 which is the largest common magazine and what I use. I don't know what you have there. --Jerry

PS I have a Remington 700P in 338LM. The stock DBM uses an Accurate Mage 3.775 long magazine. The AICS Long action system uses a shorter, 3.715 magazine. If you had the AI that wasn't CIP, then I would expect it to be too short in a Remington OEM bottom metal. But it sounds like you've got the 3.850 magazine.

I built one 338lm on a remington. Scary.
Check with seekins on a magazine. Theres a couple different kinds. You may be better off just replacing that bottom metal with one of known mfr after you buy a couple mags that wont work. You could have a real oddball that youll never get a mag for.
