Magazine Follower

timeout

Silver $$ Contributor
I'm working on a 700 Rem SA BDL in 6BR. Will a magazine follower from .223, or .243 work properly? If I can't locate one on this forum, where is the best place to purchase one? Thanks, LG.

Whichever follower you use, it's gonna take some work. Great round, just be prepared for alot of adjusting the mag and modifying the follower. They can be fed mag wise just not lightning fast. Another thing to consider is easing the ramp on the action as well.

Thanks for the reply. Working on this for a friend. I have a single feed ramp in mine, so am not certain what I will be up against.

If it is going to be used as a single shot, why not just put a press fit or glue in single shot follower in it?

I've always heard about the problems with this but with 68 or 80 grain bergers I just load them in the mag so that the tip of the bullet touches the front and they feed flawless at any speed. It may be that the short action 700 is for a 220 swift but it works for me

Here's an article by Mike Bryant on this very subject: http://www.6mmbr.com/Rem700magfix.html

He used a .308 mag box with a spacer from a .223 mag, and modified a .308 follower to fit.
