Made the deer culling team again.

There's a HUGE difference between hogs and whitetail in regards to the rate of reproduction.

I'm not familiar with Cleveland, so I don't know what kind of realistic hazards and limitations there are to actually hunting the deer with appropriate equipment. That said, I tend to take issue with city and state employees hunting game animals that belong to ALL the citizens in the state. I DO, however, understand the need to literally make the roadways safer. Seems like the "harvest" data should be used to establish licensing quotas for an archery season that could be extended across more of the county.
I do agree with everything you said, however the negotiations were between ODNR,and our council and police chief, archery was brought up but due to the lot sizes, quite small in most cases it was discarded, one must have acreage to hunt with a bow ,ordinance thing. My only role and a couple others is to effectively make ONE shot kills which we all did, areas we shot are areas adjacent to wooded areas where deer congregate and near ,if not in some cordoned off park areas. Not singing accolades but the FEW involved are impeccable marksman , and not one animal ever ran off wounded. Shots are ridiculously close as we shoot over bait and visibility is perfect, not sporting but I was not instrumental in the programs inception. Weaponry is not open for discussion as it's nobody concern, once again ODNR sets the rules. Everything is shot suppressed and no one ever called reporting they heard gunshots.as it stands now only antlerless deer are culled ,as most bucks are killed on the highways during the rut.

Must be nice!

Meanwhile in Oregon, the ODFW can't figure out how to manage anything, and our deer numbers have been rapidly declining the last 10 years. They sure love to take our money though!

Sometimes there just aren't any better options. Honestly, under those circumstances, there's a pretty wide selection of weaponry that would be very effective and very quiet. If the lots are that small, any attempt at allowing the general public to somehow participate is likely going to have some really negative results.

is that b/c they're concerned about lead spoiling the meat
95% of our shots are neck,or head no meat spoilage here.I think I use a 223 Remington Hornady superformance Match 75 grain BTHP Match with a 50 yard zero, puts me 0.4 inches at 100 ,BC is tremendous for this round .395,not one deer did not drop in tracks as if hit by lightning. Couldn't tell you what anybody else uses,I run a Liberty arms titanium can. I gave myself away but it was approved by the authorities, authorities,LOL!

Nice to know that CWD has little impact on the deer herd in Ohio. :D I get the impression that it is government employed shooters, and not private citizens?

I've always wondered about various .224 projectiles performance on deer, especially at lower speeds. They aren't legal for deer here in Indiana, so I've never really been able to try them out. If you want it to be quiet, you could always use something like blue dot to develop a load that shoots a little slower. I've always wondered how their 75gr ELD would do in regards to expansion and penetration at lower speeds. Another really good option would be their new 62gr ELD VT. On head and neck shots, it should still have plenty of penetration to do the job with almost zero risk of damage from a pass through. Fun things to consider :)

The chief had the swat guys and rangemasters evaluate several loads, this Hornady in our shooting environment worked best,NOT one wounded animal.

Deer populations in many mid Atlantic states are out of control.

You could shoot 30 in a weekend off my brother’s little 50 acre side field (lot is 125 total). As such CWD is starting up and spreading quickly.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think some Midwest states have implemented “earn a buck” tags. Can’t shoot a buck till you register a doe harvest.

With the amount of hunters the east has, that would cull herds way faster than government programs. But hey, at least your community did something the game commission

They are a pest here in southern SC. I have killed many (50 or so) with the Nosler 55gr Varmageddon. My rifles don't like the 75gr Hornaday, but they are just as deadly with the 77 SMK. But, then again I was shooting where I didn't have to worry about people.

We may have to do something similar here. I scared deer off the flowers in the yard 3 times last night. I think they eat the flowers for dessert because someone on the next street over keeps corn out for them - brilliant.

IN started this last season. We are so over run in our area with deer you can shoot from mid Nov to the end of Jan in this part of the state. 1 spiked limit, anterless depends on your area, there is no shortage.
