Our city is overrun with deer every year 200 deer strikes with automobiles finally after a two year battle with residents the police department working with ODNR got the okay to cull from October till march in designated areas.Only a few were selected on the dept, those that can implement one shot one kill scenarios,no exceptions.We have a list of residents who take the deer and there's no shortage of takers. Last year the first we took over 150 ,I took 32 ,due to restraints with work etc,all were dropped in tracks,drt with one shot suppressed rifles. Looking forward to it again.We shoot over bait, car deer crashes have been significantly reduces so the program is working,safety is top priority , we had no issues and they'll be none as all participants are seasoned guys.The goal is 250 deer a year to maintain them at a manageable level.
Made the deer culling team again.

Are you using lead free bullets? Are all shots logged, as well as the outcome of each shot? Could be a lot of useful information.
My local farms are over run with deer damage. I've been helping the farmers for around 45 years. Did 66 last summer. Already did 8 this week using my .Taurus .500 Mag., 6.5/.284 XP-100 handgun & .375/.284 XP-100 handgun from 50 yds. to 275 yds. (I don't own any rifles). I've kept records of each deer kill-bullet used, distance, internal damage, & exits. My total handgun kill is now 2738.

Put your name on the list,we call you have 20 minutes to respond and get the deer,if you are a no show we go to the next one on the list, we had zero problems getting rid of over 150 deer.

Anti hunting "organizations" will file court petitions to stop lawful hunting seasons and activities. Well written reports (submitted to the court) showing the effectiveness/efficiency of the taking of game(animals) for population control carry a lot of influence.
if the deer going to starve or cause serious auto accidents then they need to be culled. donate the meat to a homeless shelter if nobody claims.
Can you provide more information about the rifle, cartridge, load, etc?

jdThe suburbs of Cleveland are over run with deer. The dumb politians think that culling about 200 a year solbves the problem. They don't understand the birth rate is much hreater than the cull rate. Also they are only culled at two small locations I live 5 miles from where they are being culled. I cann't grow flowers in my yard. In Texas they did a study on culling wild hogs. They determined that you have to kill about 80% of the herd every year to get it under control.

There's a HUGE difference between hogs and whitetail in regards to the rate of reproduction.
I'm not familiar with Cleveland, so I don't know what kind of realistic hazards and limitations there are to actually hunting the deer with appropriate equipment. That said, I tend to take issue with city and state employees hunting game animals that belong to ALL the citizens in the state. I DO, however, understand the need to literally make the roadways safer. Seems like the "harvest" data should be used to establish licensing quotas for an archery season that could be extended across more of the county.
