Machining an external bolt release

I want to install an external bolt release on a Remington 700. I looked through Brownells and MidwayUSA for the parts, but couldn't find them. I know they exist, because I've seen it on a number of Remingtons...does anyone sell the parts, or are they all custom made? Has anyone machined an external bolt release for a Remington? Seems straightforward enough, but I'd like some reassurance and advice on any 'gotchya's'...

Lots of different styles out there,,bout the most simple one is one that Sinclair sells,,very similar to the old Hart style,,all it takes is a drilled/tapped hole in the side of the action....not the prettiest one but very easy to use...

You can buy them from Defiance Machine.

Stiller will sell you the parts from a Viper or Predator. The Sinclair piece is simple and effective but unacceptably ugly IMO.

Both the Stiller and the Defiance Machine are good looking solutions...contacted both. I'll take pictures when it's done and post.

fa18hooker, are you doing that install your self? I tried to call Defiance last week but couldn't get through; I have 2 rems that I want to do. I'll install them myself just wanted to talk to someone before I jumped into it. Looks fairly simple compared to all the other stuff I just got finished doing. Matt

This is on my Grandson's mod 600 Remington. It is an Anshutz. Be sure to place it as far back on the rear receiver ring as possible. If not your bolt might not retract far enough to feed the next round in the magazine.

Look at the way Lawton installs thiers. Instead of a roll pin and a hole drilled through top to bottom. They use a blind hole and thread the bottom part. Then the pin is a screw with the threads turned down where it runs though the release. Easy to remove and looks cleaner.

Just noticed that the one pictured above must have ben done in a similar fashion.
