Machine Shop Books

Are there any basic machine shop books out there that you guys would recommend. I do not plan on buying a lathe or a mill but would just like to understand the process a little better.

The Machinist HandBook would be an real eye opener for starts.
I would suggest you buy a used one maybe ten years old. Brownells and Midway sell a number of Machining and Gunsmithing books. Gunsmithing Kinks, Machinest Bedside Reader would be others. There are some old publications by South Bend Equipment Company specific to the lathe and mill.
