M1a trigger oddity

Behind the trigger there is a "block" that is part of the trigger housing. In that block there is an overtravel screw. I believe that is its only purpose as tightening it down all the way blocks the trigger from releasing the hammer.

Trigger is two stage first stage is light and smooth, second stage is 3 pounds.

Have any of you seen this before ? I have seen add on "blocks" that are screwed to the housing this one seems to either be part of the trigger housing originally or a good weld job and refinish was done.

Anything you can add is appreciated. Thank you.
