M1A National Match Build

I believe Norman Houle ran an M14 done up as a match rifle.

If I was to go that route, I'd use one of the chassis systems and ditch the wood/synthetic stock.

MT6XC,

"...Plus, the older guns were all build with USGI parts. The stuff out there today is mostly of commercial manufacture and often not up to specs..."

Cut my teeth and earned 28 points toward my Distinguished Riflemans badge with my M1A as well as President's 100. It is a good (but expensive) rifle that will teach you the importance of good solid positions when shooting XC.

Have fun.

Bob, I did the same, made HM with a M14, Distinguished and P100. Your quote regarding USGI parts is the best info any M1A/M14/M1 Garand shooter can have, especially, the bolt parts.

MT6XC,
A match rifle in a M1-A, now that would be different. Sounds expensive, but if thats what you want.. I'm sure it could be built. The rear sight would have to be completely reworked as well as the trigger assembly. Maybe go with something like a 6.5 creedmoor cartridge, use a krieger barrel and tune the gas system to work. Bed it into a JAE chassis with a hand rail on the lower surface for a hand stop. I've never heard of anyone going down this road but it sounds interesting.

Best of luck,

Tony
