M1a Appraisal

I have an m1a I'm going to sell and would like to get opinions on what a fair price would be. Description as follows,JAE stock ,Krieger 12tw. heavy barrel on it with less than 500 rnds.Springfield nm trigger group and unitized gas cylinder.Adjustable gas nut. Thanks for any input !

Times have changed, there is now a much smaller market for the match grade M1A since the AR now dominates the sport and XTC participation is down. If you have 3K in it and will be disappointed not to get that price, I think keeping it and finding it a good home in the future is good advice.

Have to agree with previous posters, M1As are not in big demand these days. Don’t get me wrong I love them but High Power competition is ruled by ARs. Keep it and down the road depending on the political climate, they will probably appreciate.

National Match or Super Match receiver?

Another point, there are "match" M1As and then there are ladder day, what are referred to today as match M1As. When M1As were "the" service rifle there were great gunsmiths that built them from all GI parts using the methods developed by the AMU. If you have one of those M1As it would be worth more than one of the commercial match M1As that are being sold today. Most people assume that a used gun has a used barrel and that is the way they are priced by the buyer.

the less they are used means less will be made which means the ones that exist will be worth more. look at what springfield 03's are worth in military form. if he has a son within 20 years it will fetch good money if he wants to sell it

In twenty years, they might have been confiscated and tossed in a smelter.:(

15 yrs ago I had an M1A "Loaded" model traded it straight across for an Springfield 38 Super with a comp.. The value on any thing is based on need or desire. If you're dying of thirst and no water for miles. Given the choice between a Rolex or a canteen of water.. Most folks would choose the water..

I,m over a barrel there ,the only young male in the family is likely to play a triangle in a band !This is just the tip of the ice berg,I have a tricked out UZI that boggles the mind to sell.
It does not have to be a family member. I sold one to a good friend that is much younger than me and with much more life expectancy and also with children to pass things on to. I sold it at a bargain since I was able to give it a good home. He knows some of the history, the old man once got LEG points with this rifle at Camp Perry in the 1980s. Sometimes money is not the most important consideration.

Before I started barrel work I sent this to Krieger for the barrel and fit up which is spot on for a sie.168.The stock has a metal insert so it doesn't need bedding.I will post pics later.
