m&p 15/300 whisper and 175 smk??

I've been tossing around the idea of getting Smith & wessons m&p 15 chambered in 300 whisper. I think the combination of gun design and caliber is perfect. upon finding some good sources of 175 smk cheap and such a low powder charge especially when loaded subsonic Im wanting itmore and more. does anyone have this particular rifle and have any subsonic reloading experience using the 175 smk? I'm wandering how well suited it is for 100-150. I realize drop will be pretty substantial. thanks, nick

I have the 300AAC Blank out and honestly prefer it over getting a whisper. There is only one reliably available round for the whisper and that is from hornady. They Blackout has dozens of choices already from multiple sources.

Still it is nice to be able to purchase reloading components already built for your particular cartridge. The whisper feel out of standing for because I had to form brass. I can buy blackout ammo shoot it and then reload from there. To be honest though I bought it thinking it would be a great hunting upper but soon realized I like my grendel upper much better. still can't decide on if I should trade it in or sell it out right as the store I bought it at lets you trade it back in and get the majority of your money back if your not a big fan of it. That and I do most of my shopping were I bought the upper assembly.

I have a noveske barreled 300 blackout. Not much luck with 155-185 range weights shooting supersonic. Those weights are in the lowend for subsonic as well.

Mine is a 1in8 twist and that is the problem for the heavies. A 1 in 7 might work. You just cant get the speed needed with the heavies to make them stable. This is my belief anywaysss.

1:7.5 will stablize a 220 SMK easy. If you are going to shoot sub, why shoot the 168? I shoot the 200 and the 208 in mine. 8.5 of lilgun in my 16" barrel. Key is to keep them between 1000 and 1050. If shooting supersonic, go with 110-130... I hunt with a 130 Hornady SP around 2200 fps. It's basically liek shooting a 30-30 but with a better bullet, and 1/2 the powder and recoil.

blackout is becoming very popular. It is a fun round to shoot. It's also a great 100-200 yard hunting round. Easy to make brass for also....

Ok, maybe it is not a stabilization issue but I have not got Amax's, Accubonds, SMK's, SST or pretty much anything in the 150 up to group at supersonic speeds. 110-125 have worked great. Used 125 Lapuas, 110 VMax, several 110 varmints, and 125 SMK.

Mine likes 125 SMK and 110 Vmax.
