LYNX rifle scopes

Hi all.

I have a question with regards to optics.

I currently own a Lynx LX3 2.5-15x50 RF-Tactical rifle scope [R11,500.00]
https://www.lynx.co.za/index.php/catalog/riflescopes/lx3-25-15x50-tactical/

but i am considering upgrading to the bigger 5-30x56 Competition series[ R17,900.00 ]
https://www.lynx.co.za/catalog/riflescopes/lx3-5-30x56/

i mainly use it with my .308 for hunting and long range shooting as i am training to go beyond 500m. The greater magnification as well as FOV is a requirement for Long range shooting

I would appreciate feedback as there is very little to be found on both performance and value for money. Would it be worth the upgrade and will it be a good long term investment rifle scope. Lynx in South Africa has a good reputation in general, but with the new LX3 series, no one can really help me .

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Hi Carel,

Michael here from Lynx.

Lynx is a South African-based brand so US shooters will likely not be familiar with the name unless they've visited ZA.

The LX3 2.5-15x50 that is currently on your rifle has 60 MOA total elevation adjustment and should be good for use on your .308 up to 700 metres or so at least, depending on your load and assuming the scope tube is mounted more or less parallel to the bore of the barrel.

If you need more elevation than you're getting now you could fit a tapered rail or ringset to point the scope downward 20 - 30 MOA on the objective-lens side which will give you total elevation adjustment of 40 to 50 MOA from 100 metre zero, and which should give you enough elevation to shoot up past a kilometer (again, depending on your load).

LX3 5-30x56 by comparison has 110 MOA total elevation travel but unless you need the additional elevation there is no real need for the bigger scope. Both LX3s have zero stop elevation, both have 100% accurate and reliable windage and elevation adjustment controls and both have very really great-performing HD optics. Even the additional magnification of the bigger scope is not really useful for long range shooting with our weather conditions. Consider into the equation that LX3 5-30x56 weighs in at around 1.2 kg which, depending on your hunting style may be a hindrance.

Rgds,
Michael

Now how many times do you see a company rep try to help you save money rather than spend more? That alone makes me think Lynx must be a pretty darned good company.
Good for you, Michael!

25 plus years ago, before all of our firearms restrictions, I had a special needs rifle that needed a special mount. Lynx was the only place I could find what I needed. They went way out of their way to see that I got what I needed.

I would like to see some of their scopes up close. Just eyeballing them on the internet, they resemble the discontinued Sightron II and Big Sky.
