Check out this latest new find to help fight LYME DISEASE. Written by Cara Michelle Miller on new amazing info about what Northwestern University Feinberg Sch00l 0f Medicine has found out. A must read for all who spend time out of drs in the brush where ticks can bite you. 500,000 people a year get LYME Disease......

Just finished a 2 week course of Doxycycline after getting bit for the first time. It really does mess with you in ways they describe. Time will tell if it was worth it..

I had it over 25 yrs ago and it took Dr's over 2 months to diagnose the problem. My whole body hurt. Even my hair. After a young Dr figured it out. I was on the mend in a week. They kept saying I had the flu. I always said it settled in my knees. I was 42 yrs old and never had knee pain in my life. Shortly after my knees ached all the time.

I wonder? Shock (electric) "in a pinch" worked on snake bites. Spark plug wire on a snake bite :eek:) changes the structure of the venom. Wonder if that might help on a tick bite?
Saw that info in Outdoor Life a LOOOONG time ago.
ER doctor friend saw the article and I never saw my magazine again.

I remember now, many years back, reading about people in snake country were carrying hi-voltage electric shockers to zap the snake bite area. Now we are giving medical advice and this thread will disappear shortly, just like the one I started recently on the tick bites that make you allergic to steaks! I doubt the shocker would work on a tick bite cause the stuff they transmit goes right into the blood stream as that is what they are after. But I would try it anyway. Worse case you just get a painful zap!

Your experience is true, but I know several others that went through the 2 week regimen without any issues.

Using an electrical pulse to damage the cell membrane (bacteria like Lyme) is called electroporation it is being researched as a possible means to stop bacterial infections at bite sites/wounds. If not properly used the electricity will also damage tissue cells. Or cook a hot dog. Start/stop heart, lots of possibilities.

First time I've heard of using shockticution for snake bite. It's shocking enough to see the critter. I'm goosey on the treatment, electricity belongs in light bulbs and I don't trust anything I can't see.

I have often wondered why electrophorisis or specificly "Plasmapheresis" is not used for more thing that might not respond to antibiotics.

In college I got to listen to a symposium by a guy who was supposedly the premier snake catcher/ venom harvester at the time.
He went all over the country catching venomous snakes for research and venom harvesting. He said over 30 years he’d been bitten several times and was with people who were bitten as well. I specifically asked about shock therapy and he pulled out a stun gun type device and said he’d tried it a few times and it had no effect. According to him the only effective thing was anti venom
He felt the only time it “ worked” was when it was a dry bite which was more common than most people think.

Would be nice if electricity would neutralize snake bite, especially when running hunting dogs in remote areas. But it is not a solution.

This makes sense. Also, as it has been a good 20 years, one would think that medicine would have tested this electro therapy on lab animal snake bites and we could read up on the results, if it actually 'worked'. If it didn't 'work' then no research paper to bother publishing!

Just been tested for a tick bite, the sucker was literally .080 long (not a typo).
This is the panel of tests they did, ticks really do suck.

Typically a single dose of Doxycycline within 72 hours of the tick bite is required not a two week regiment.
